‘‘Resilience is all about being able to overcome the unexpected’’, James Cascio. Cloud services and their unique challenge to business continuity planning. A customer had a problem. They had a cloud IT strategy. Seen significant efficiencies and growth through a new ERP System. But now, if they lost their system, they would would be unable to continue operations. And if an administrator got the keys to the ERP system, they could potentially hold their system to ransom. The risk was untenable. Not only were their current operations in jeopardy but all future projects, partnerships and investments were at risk. Traditional Escrow could guarantee access to the software code and a recent copy of data, but could not protect them from disruption, downtime and loss of services – at least for a time. And time was critical. When they spoke with us, they were surprised. There was no immediate price list. No out of the box solution offered. SES understands that the first step to solving a problem is admitting you have one. Escrow is only effective if it is a collaborative process and SES worked with the customer and their supplier to provide a structure and process for complex legal, technical and commercial considerations to be addressed. The result was ever so simple. The system now cannot be lost without significant notice. In the event the customer’s supplier goes into administration, any interruption is negligible. And the customer can confidently continue with current operations as well as all future partnership and investment opportunities. If you have an important cloud service and are concerned by supplier resilience and business continuity, feel free to message me to find out how we can help. After all, the goal of resilience is to thrive.

A Software Escrow Agreement only works as a robust Continuity solution if there's an exit strategy in place that support it. Has the Code been validated? Have all the materials required for a success redeployment been escrowed along with the Code? What's the release process and how long does it take? These are all important questions that are often overlooked but are crucial aspects of your Business Continuity and Operational Resilience planning #BusinessContinuity #OperationalResilience #SoftwareEscrow

A Software Escrow Agreement provides a safety net…but only if the material held in Escrow is complete, accurate, and usable. This is where Software Escrow Validation and Verification Testing come into the equation as essential components💡 At SES, we’ve developed a suite of independent validation services designed to give organisations confidence that their Escrow deposits contain everything needed to successfully rebuild and redeploy their software in the event of a release. • If encrypted data ever needs to be accessed in exceptional circumstances, Key Escrow ensures that the encryption keys can be retrieved securely, lawfully, and with full accountability✅ Key Escrow is not about weakening encryption or creating open access. It’s about ensuring that when access is genuinely required, whether for continuity, compliance, investigation, or emergency response, there’s a safe and auditable mechanism to obtain it.
