President Trump has outlined two potential avenues for establishing a “Federal Standard” for AI regulation: incorporating it into the NDAA or advancing it through standalone legislation. 1. The National Defense Authorization Act is an annual legislative package authorizing spending at the Department of Defense and for other national security programs. Because the bill is viewed as “must-pass” and hard to oppose, it has become a prime vehicle for lawmakers to attach their own priorities. Senators and Representatives will likely need to resolve differences on competing NDAA proposals in the coming weeks.
