“I don’t even remember the implementation because it went so smoothly…” That’s how Pat Songer, COO & Chief of EMS at Cascade Medical, described rolling out Avo during our recent webinar with the National Rural Health Association. The discussion also featured Athena Minor, Chief Nursing & Clinical Officer at Ohio County Healthcare, who echoed that perspective and shared meaningful insights on how to successfully evaluate, implement, and drive adoption of AI clinical tools in a rural hospital setting. 🎥 Watch Pat explain what worked during his implementation of Avo 👉 Full webinar recording: https://lnkd.in/eGTjUNw6

New study release...collaboration with Mass General Brigham and Avo. Could we further infuse tech-enabled "clinical confidence" into physicians during hospital rapid responses? 📱🩺 In the heat of such events, cognitive load is the enemy. We know that effective management of unexpected patient deterioration requires not just clinical expertise, but swift, high-stakes decision-making and strong leadership. But what if we could offload some of that cognitive burden to a digital co-pilot? Mike Senter-Zapata, MD and I are excited to share our latest clinical pathways and research published in Applied Clinical Informatics, where we explored the feasibility of using mobile, guided critical care algorithms for inpatient rapid responses. The Study: We developed and then deployed five condition-specific digital algorithms (Tachycardia, Bradycardia, Hypotension, Hypoxia, and Altered Mental Status) to 150+ internal medicine physicians ranging from residents to attending hospitalists. These tools utilized a checklist-style approach inspired by aviation safety to guide stabilization and treatment. The Results: The feedback was compelling. Across all training levels, physicians reported: ✅ Reduced Stress & Cognitive Load: 78.6% reported a reduction in stress, with nearly 40% giving it a perfect 10/10 score. ✅ Improved Patient Care: 92.9% of respondents rated the tool highly for improving care delivery. ✅ Standardization: Strong consensus on the potential to standardize and improve high-stakes care. The critical insight for digital health design: While the benefits were clear, we found a fascinating nuance in user experience (UX). Our newest residents (PGY-2s) rated "ease of navigation" significantly lower than seasoned attendings. This reminds us that experience shapes perception. A tool designed for an expert might feel "clunky" to a novice who is already overwhelmed. To truly democratize expert-level care, we must tailor a knowledge co-pilot to the user's experience level, minimizing "clicks" and friction when seconds count. The opportunity: digital clinical decision support isn't just about replacing pocket cards; it's about "separating the signal from the noise" in acute care. By integrating these tools directly into clinical workflows, we have a massive opportunity to bridge the training gap, reduce burnout, and ensure every patient gets gold-standard care, regardless of who responds to the call.
