A brilliant full-circle moment on campus this week 👑 Our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aleks Subic, recently discovered a crown made by our very first Students’ Union President, John Pavitt! 🎓 It’s a small but powerful reminder of the legacy students build beyond lectures and seminars. From creative traditions to lasting impact, student leaders help shape the culture and history of our university in ways that still resonate years later 🌟 Looking back at what John achieved, it’s exciting to think that one of this year’s candidates could be creating the next chapter of that story. But you’ll never know the impact they could have unless you take a look at what they stand for. Our Elections are underway, and now’s the time to explore the manifestos, learn about the candidates, and see who could help shape the future of our Aston University community! 🤩 Check them out now and discover the leaders of tomorrow 👉 https://lnkd.in/drTBNmy

Aston Students' Union reposted this
As February comes to a close, I’ve been reflecting on the journey so far as President Wellbeing & Inclusion at Aston Students' Union. I stepped into this role with limited training, no staff support and a £1,000 campaign budget to help the students for a whole year and more. Instead of seeing that as a limitation, I built a structure. Here’s what I have delivered so far: Wellbeing & Inclusion Roadmap (2025–26) Created a full-year strategy to bring direction, accountability, and measurable impact to student wellbeing. Digital Wellbeing Hub (Launching April 2026) One centralised page for all support services — removing barriers when students need help. I Can’t Afford to Study Camapign 1,078 responses in three weeks for the survey. Secured funding and pushed cost-of-living concerns into senior leadership conversations. Belong Campaign Tackling loneliness through inclusive events and safe spaces. Safe at Aston Building proactive campus safety, including a cross-university SafeZone alliance with BCU and UoB. Ask Gagan Campaign Increasing transparency around representation and student leadership. Term 1: Building Foundations • Secured £5,000 departmental funding + staff support • Secured £8,000 future cost-of-living funding • Reintroduced Free Breakfast & Wellbeing Packages (600+ students supported) • Launched Neurodiversity Café • Delivered Wellbeing Fair • Formed SafeZone Alliance Term 2: Driving Policy & System Change • Cost-of-living report going to Senior Leadership • Introduced £5 Meal Deal in the Student Union Lounge • Expanding direct support initiatives • Launched Intercultural Café • Secured LGBTQ+ external support partnership • Introduced self-certification policy (Sept 2026) • Advocating for Wednesday afternoons free, sensory spaces, fair assessment gaps & paid medical placements Finally, the Welfare Committee has been the heart of all my campaigns, initiatives, policies, etc. A group of 32 student volunteers is making Aston a safer and more inclusive space for everyone. Wellbeing leadership isn’t about events. It’s also about funding, policy, partnerships, and sustainable change, and I’m focused on delivering more. Thank you to everyone very supportive until now, and keep looking for more updates soon 😉. Aston UniversityAston Students' Union
