From hiring to performance reviews, inclusive practices must be built into every touchpoint. That means structured interviews, diverse hiring panels, and equitable growth opportunities. Make sure you celebrate difference. Recognition isn’t one-size-fits-all. A culture of belonging means allowing people to show up authentically — and celebrating the richness that brings. Also, another big one is to hold leadership accountable. Inclusive cultures thrive when leadership models vulnerability, openness, and cultural intelligence. DEI goals should be part of leadership KPIs — not just HR’s. Inclusivity is ongoing work. It’s not about getting it perfect, but getting it honest.

Inclusive policies are great if you do not make them so strict that you have to fit a certain criteria to meet that policy. So often these policies are set to meet a norm which when it comes to DEI makes them in actual fact not in any way diverse at all. There are so many examples out there of companies getting it wrong that this gets accepted as normal. So really look at your inclusive policies and make sure they fit for purpose and not just fit for a restricted version of DEI.

Policies are only inclusive if they work for the people they’re meant to protect. In one role, we realized our time-off policy unintentionally excluded certain cultural observances. We updated it to include floating holidays, and the shift in morale was immediate. Inclusivity isn’t about writing perfect policies—it’s about listening, reviewing, and evolving them with empathy. A policy that reflects real people builds real belonging.

Inclusivity isn’t a checkbox. It’s a daily practice of choosing connection over comfort and building systems that reflect the richness of all identities. Ultimately, I foster inclusivity by modeling it — by doing the work internally, being willing to grow, and holding space for others to do the same. When we create spaces where people feel they belong, we unlock their brilliance — and that’s when teams thrive.
