Law and Order Organized Crime episodes 5.04-5.05

Character: Roman Spezzano, performed by Alberto Frezza.

Type of whumps: into a gunfight and shot, laying on the ground bleeding and asked for help, helped getting out of the car and walking, taken care of in the field, agitated and sweating, threatened with a gun, feverish and pale.

So… As you all know, Chicago franchise is always good in teasing their fans with good potential whumps but, after weeks of waiting, they usually end into nothing… Same happened into the last two episodes of Chicago Med: Jonathan Frost (Darren Barnet) meets someone from his past as a teenage actor, Ainsley: she’s going to play the part of a nurse and asks him to help her getting the opportunity to observe first hand the real work. He looks uneasy, taken aback, yet agrees to every requests, even a dinner invitation…

He literally flies away from her and seeks refuge in the bathroom, taking deep breaths…

until he throws up

He’s definitely upset.

Later, while he’s worried for his friend’s fate,

he has puppy eyes, seems regressed to his childhood needs,

she takes advantage of his emotional distress to try to kiss him but when she makes her move, he steps back, minimizes the situation and walks away.

In the following episode (three weeks later, we had to wait) he’s uncomfortable every time she’s around.

Then he finds himself in the storage room with her. He tries to make conversation remembering the past, then she tries to kiss him again. At first he lets her kiss him then steps back and exits the room shaken. Maggie notices them, especially the expression on his face, and gets suspicious.

Seeing a father reassuring his son about his unconditionally love for him, John gets upset and goes for some fresh air where Maggie finds him.

She confronts his friend about the episode in the storage room, asking him about their relationship when he was a minor. He gets defensive, he’s tense while reassuring he was not a victim and tells her to stop prying.

At the end of the episode, he confronts Ainsley, telling her to leave the feelings in the past and refusing to go out for dinner with her. He stands in the hall upset while she leaves livid.

I don’t think they will elaborate it more, besides some tension with Maggie

and that’s a shame: they planned it since John reluctantly admitted he was a child actor, he’s always been secretive of that part of his life… Now that it’s made clear he was the underage victim of an adult predator, they dismiss all the potential in a bunch of scenes… I also think they cut some good material, even if part of it was presented in the episode teaser…

Here comes my request to all the amazing fanfiction writers here in the whump community: would you elaborate it? Develop all this potential? Maybe adding more whump now that he’s an adult? I like the emotional distress (and the actor performs it well) but I miss some physical whump. I can think of a couple of aftermaths:

* John still shaken for remembering the events in his childhood, he has nightmares so he’s sleep deprived at work, plus he’s feeling powerless, unable to change the past rereading it as an adult… He gets careless and vehemently confronts an abusive parent who doesn’t like to be challenged;

* John feels a bit relieved after confronting Ainsley, he tries to go back to his normal life but feels estranged from his coworkers: his relationship with the head nurse is tense, they don’t talk anymore, Ripley is still out of commission and doctor Charles is a psychiatrist, he would guess too much, as Maggie did. One night, exhausted and distracted after two shifts, he walks home but Ainsley has different plans for him, she wants her revenge…

What do you think? I’m no writer and, as you can guess, English is not my mother language, so would some of the many talented fanfics writers take over from here?

UPDATE (episode 10.18): He actually feels estranged from his coworkers, grumpy and insufferable of potentially abusive parental relationships, he’s defensive and argues with doctor Charles…

2nd UPDATE (episode 10.19): John has insomnia, keeps rethinking his past with Ainsley

and his intern conflict emerges during work…

He eventually builds the courage to face it and talk about it with Dr. Charles

and he finally confronts Ainsley about the truth: he admits that he has difficulty building relationships due to trust issues, trust that she betrayed when he was a teenager and took advantage of him.

So, they actually sort of went down to one of my possibly scenarios, but I don’t think they will go anywhere further.
