This below is my original 500 word statement that accompanied the nomination papers submitted to the University of Glasgow. I may be the only rectorial candidate to say these words but I didn’t go to University. I’ve had successful, fulfilling careers and I’m currently fortunate enough to have won many awards as a stand up comedian, something started as a dare! I didn’t go to university because of the barriers I faced, barriers that many still face when it comes to getting in and staying in. That’s what I believe would make me an effective Rector of Glasgow University. I understand what it’s like to face and overcome those barriers and if I’m given the honour, my job, my passion will be to help you overcome yours. Thanks so much for making your way to my campaign blog. This is simply going to be somewhere you can get a bit more information about my views and how I would intend to stand up for you as a student should I be elected as the rector of Glasgow University. I don't plan to update it every day because I plan to spend most of my time AT the university talking to you and your friends. I plan to put all of my campaign videos up here and to have a list of issues that I care about or that you've brought to my attention where you can just click and get to a very short video / article that tells you more than I can put on a leaflet.
