Benito Mussolini always liked to present himself as a man of action. He could be seen driving a sports car, or working in the fields during his “Battle with Wheat” program, and he particularly loved flying. He loved sitting in the co-pilot’s seat while and sometimes would take the controls of the airplane, but only for a brief time. Even after his youngest son Bruno was killed test flying a prototype bomber in 1940, he still had a keen interest in aviation.
