Depending on the time of year, hikers may encounter snow, mud, fire, extreme heat or other conditions that it would helpful to know about before embarking on the ODT. This document is meant to be a crowd-sourced resource for sharing observations of trail conditions, cross country sections or two-track roads along the 750 mile route. Please add your observations!

Stunning views of the snowcapped Cascades – just look back. At Pine Mountain Observatory, there is a webcam: Your friends can watch you taking a break. :)

Take a detour and loop around Plot Butte for some great views and a nice campsite!
21
If you follow the backcountry roads east of the second (southern) Aspen Butte, you can reach the reliable water source more directly instead of detouring a mile.

Where the ODT crosses Sink Lane (43.4253980,-120.7024530) this is a great spot to cache water. It is accessible with a passenger car.
37
Crack-in-the-Ground in the morning is sweet. :) Highly recommend a detour to the Black Hills out of Christmas Valley. You can XC back to the ODT.
38
XC through the nameless canyon back to the main route is not too bad (compared to what lies ahead).

If you brought an inflatable sleeping pad, beware all the spiky plants on top of the plateau before you hike up Diablo Peak.

The climb up Diablo Peak was not bad at all, but we did not find an ideal line going up Diablo Rim. The rim was surprisingly buggy. Just east of
61
Diablo Rim, you can XC down to a dirt road that makes traveling a lot faster on this long dry stretch to the Giant waterhole. We saw some
62
feral horses along another waterhole that was silty, but had water.
