Simplest Mug Cozy

  Materials:

5.5mm Crochet Hook

DK Yarn (approx 25 Yards) - Any colour or two colours can be used

1 Inch Size Button

Measuring Tape

Darning/Tapestry Needle

Scissors


Stitches Used (US Terms)

sc - single crochet

ch - chain

st - stitch

sp - space

FL - Front Loop

BL - Back Loop

sk - skip stitch

slst - slip stitch


Foundation Row- (37st)

Ch 37

*For your favourite mug, measure the circumference and chain to that length*


Row One - (36st)

sc in every stitch along the chain - starting from the second ch from the hook


Row Two - (45st)

Turn, ch 1

sc in every st along

ch 9


Row Three - (44st)

Turn

sc in every ch and st to the end of row


Row Four and Five - (44st)

Turn, ch1

sc in every st til the end


Row Six - (44st)

Turn, ch1

sc in every stitch leaving the last 5 sts un-worked

ch 3, sk3 sts

sc in last 2 sts


Row Seven - (44st)

Turn, ch 1

Sc in first 2 sts

3sc in the ch sp below

sc in remaining st til end


Row Eight and Nine - (44st)

Turn, ch 1

sc in every st along til the end


Row 10 - (36st)

Turn, ch 1

sc in the next 36st

leave 8st of the end unworked


Row 11 - (36st)

Turn, ch 1

sc in every st til the end


Row 12 - Using the same for contrasting colours (optional)

Slst around the whole edge of the cosy to create a neater finish.


Fasten off and stitch in ends


Sew the button using the same yarn on the thicker side of the cosy (the one opposite the button hole) in the centre around 4 to 5 sts in. Knot the yarn and stitch in the ends.
