IDOL - Short Film Casting Call

IDOL is a gritty, high-stakes student short film exploring the dark side of obsession and the cost of greatness. Written and directed by Sawyer O'Brien, this production dives into the psychological and physical toll of elite-level competition.
Film Synopsis: Tyler Wells is an ambitious 18-year-old wrestler driven by a singular, consuming goal: to become an Olympic Champion like his hero, Jordan Carter. Despite a debilitating knee injury and concussion that threatens his career, Tyler is pushed to the breaking point by his demanding father, Derek, whose "win-at-all-costs" mentality borders on abusive. Trapped between his father’s relentless berating and his own desperate need to belong at the top, Tyler must decide how much of himself he is willing to destroy to become an icon.

We are seeking powerhouse performances capable of conveying deep emotional vulnerability and raw intensity. Prospective actors should be prepared for:

High-Intensity Scenes: Characters frequently engage in shouting matches and high-tension domestic confrontations.

Physical Endurance: Roles involve demanding sequences, including weight training, cardio, and grueling wrestling practices.

Gritty Realism: The film captures the "blood and sweat" of the sport—from cauliflower ear and bruised eyes to the weight-cutting process.

PRINCIPAL ROLES:
TYLER WELLS (LEAD)
Gender: Male
Age Range: 18-20
Ethnicity: White/Caucasian or Black/African American
The Role: A young man operating out of sheer will and anger to overcome a partially torn chronic patellar tendon and a worsening concussion. Tyler is "obsessed" and "destroyed" at the same time, willing to resort to extreme measures like self-induced vomiting and ignoring medical advice to make weight and compete.
Emotional Range: Requires the ability to transition from "fearful" and "crushed" to "aggravated" and "determined."
DEREK (TYLER'S FATHER)
Gender: Male
Age Range: 45-50
Ethnicity: White/Caucasian or Black/African American
The Role: Tyler’s father and coach. He is intense, strict, and aggressive. He views himself as the "master" and Tyler as his "puppet," using berating and intimidation to ensure they "do not lose."
Emotional Range: Seeking an actor who can portray "beast-like" terrifying anger while maintaining total psychological control.

SUPPORTING ROLE:
SADIE
Gender: Female
Age Range: 18-20
Ethnicity: White/Caucasian
The Role: Tyler’s love interest and his only tether to a world outside of wrestling. She serves as the grounded perspective, questioning his definition of success and his willingness to destroy himself for a sport.
Emotional Range: Requires a natural charm with the ability to convey disappointment and a quiet realization of Tyler’s instability
