About

Our team is dedicated to documenting the soundscape! Here is a bat having dinner in our community.

Recorded in September 2017 near Ecole Etoile Filante on a BatWalk.

Recorded this Bat having Dinner in Montreal! It was hunting behind a big church, near a street light that was attracting moths. At first, the bat is scanning for food, sending out sound sweeps and listening for it it bounce off moths or other insects it wants to eat. When it hears the echo of a moth, it speeds up and changes pitch… acquire, lock, gulp! Then it returns to scan mode. Recorded with a Wildlife Acoustics Bat Microphone that detects bats, lowers their songs to human hearing range, and shows you what they look like in a sound picture. (Echometer). The software tells you the two most likely species that would make this sound. It is probably a Big Brown bat!
