JOURNAL’S REVIEW
TITLE : TECHNOLOGIES FOR FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNING: A REVIEW OF TECHNOLOGY TYPES AND THEIR EFFECTIVENESS

This journal contains the use of technology in the learning and teaching of foreign languages as well as comparing the types of new technologies and simpler methods. This journal also tries to classify clearly based on the research that scientists have done, we can also say that this journal is the result of the summarizing of many scientists who have done various kinds of learning process as well as foreign language teaching using technology.
Table 1 in this journal tried to explain the brief description, in the form of the ability of the technology and the example of how if applied in foreign language learning. In table 1, there are 4 types of technology that will be discussed in the journal more details are:
- Schoolhouse- or classroom-based technologies
- Individual study tools
- Network-based social computing
- Mobile and portable devices
The four types studies of technology still have their own sub, of the many methods or technologies that we can use to improve the learning and teaching of foreign languages but, it turns out that technology has been used not all capabilities to really make the process of learning a foreign language is successful.
In this journal, the authors classify into 3 types: strong, moderate, or weak based on empirical evidence to make it easier for readers to know which ones are more effective for use in the process of learning and teaching foreign languages. If you are curious what the material or the conditions that must be filled in a technology to get into the category strong, please go to page 77 see table 2.
In the next table (see table 3) we can see there that the strong category is only 2 types of technology, namely Automatic speech recognition (ASR) and Chat. Based on ASR technology type, M. Carey (2004); Hardison (2004); Hirata (2004) stated that with technology, learners improve pronunciation efficiently. Next to the chat type, Kern (1995); Sullivan and Prat (1996); Warschauer (1996) stated that with technology, learners’ language production increases, both in terms of amount and complexity.
Then, the result of this journal informs the reader that ASR and Chat technology types are best able to provide a deeper understanding for the use of technology in learning and teaching foreign languages.
In my opinion, the positive impact of learning and teaching foreign languages through technology assistance is, with the technology will greatly facilitate the students and teachers. In this case, chat and ASR are two types of technology that will greatly assist us in learning a foreign language for easier because Chat and ASR itself includes practice for reading, writting, listening, and speaking. Foreign language skills will increase faster if students are diligent to use the chat feature and the ASR. The more often we use the two auxiliary technology, then unconsciously the number of vocabularies that we control even more and more along with as time goes by also can increase your confidence in speaking the foreign language.
In addition there are also negative things that will make the technology in the process of learning and teaching foreign languages such as accustomed to using the instant way of learning without trying to find more in advance. It is feared that technology can familiarize us students to accept what information comes without having to make sure or try to find another source.
