I'm not a fan of the code duplication between the sync and async versions of the decorator but this is always tricky -- I think any attempt to dedup would actually make this more unreadable. So this is probably the best we can do.

@sentrivana totally get you on this one, initially i thought about trying to move stuff out but figured that would probably just compromise on readability. |
