Introducing the vocabulary and practices essential for diving into hashtag#CEA. As our emerging sector matures, talent is in short supply! Although there is a strong interest from many young professionals and conventional young farmers, the dilemma appears: HOW to engage with them as operators have no resources or time to spend on this major pool of loosely interested talent. This becomes the most important contribution that FarmTech Society, together with the network, brings to the table: creating a validated introduction online course and interacting with beginners to harmonize their knowledge levels. The EU-funded ECVET course is designed to teach critical skills and prepare young talent to enter CEA as a career opportunity.

"The name "Ponics" is derived from the Greek word "ponos," which means "work" or "toil." In the context of agriculture, "ponics" refers to methods of growing plants that involve labor or work, specifically without soil, like hydroponics (using water) or aeroponics (using air). These systems are typically used in controlled environment agriculture (CEA), where plants are grown using alternative methods that maximize efficiency and resource use."
Hydroponics and Aquaponics are not new technologies, yet they are still very new. So to create a sustainable farming business 2 questions are very important to answer: How can technological innovation, social innovation and economical innovation help? Technological innovation makes a system more efficient and in this course the latest technologies will be discussed and shown. However, the newest technologies are often more expensive and are not always the most sustainable when it comes to a business. That’s why it is important to know about the most recent business innovations, especially around green, circular and blue economy. These new type of economic models also heavily rely on social innovation or "how can a business be more integrated with its community”.
