DOES YOUR CLUB HAVE THE BEST BOOT IN THE SOUTH?

A COMPETITION FOR THE WHOLE COMMUNITY

The AFL & SANFL are excited to bring a newly designed goal kicking competition to South Australia in early 2026.  The competition engages individual competitors across the State at their local club in search of the ultimate goal kicker.

Competitors are to take 10 kicks from prescribed points in the forward 50 with a shot clock of 2.5 minutes. The competitor with the highest overall total progresses as the club representative for their division in the Qualifying Finals.

Each competitor takes 10 kicks from set spots inside the forward 50.

You have 2.5 minutes to complete all attempts.

Standard AFL scoring applies: Goals = 6 points, Behinds = 1 point.

Tiebreaker – Golden Goal Shootout

  • Only kicking spots 5 & 6 will be used for Golden Goal and the participant can choose their preference between 5 & 6.
  • Both participants take a shot from their preferred kicking spot.
  • If both participants miss the goal, they swap kicking positions between 5 & 6 and kick again. If both participants get the goal, they also swap positions between 5 & 6 and kick again. This continues until one player gets a goal and one player misses. The player with the goal is the overall top scorer. Please note that behinds are not relevant in Golden Goal shootout.

There are 4 divisions allowing a wide range of people to get involved

  1. Youth aged boys (14-17 year olds)
  2. Youth aged girls (14-17 year olds)
  3. Men (+18)
  4. Women (+18)

Participants can only compete in one division. Participants do not have be registered to play community football in 2026.

The South Australia Kick Off At Your Club

Hosting the South Australia Kick Off at your club is the perfect way to kick-start the season with energy, excitement, and connection. Clubs are encouraged to tie the competition in with registration or sign-up days, with a fun reason for players and families to get involved early in the season. It’s also a great way to reconnect with past players and engage your wider community, all while giving your club the chance to be represented at Qualifying, Preliminary and even State Finals.

There will be a $40,000 prize pool for the State Finalists – where the State Champion and Community Club will be rewarded.

The champion for each division (Men, Women, Youth Boys, Youth Girls) will be awarded a prize of $5000 and their nominated community club will also receive $5000* There will also be tickets available for selected Gather Round games to cheer on the finalists.

The South Australia Kick Off  is super flexible. Allowing the ability for clubs to run all four divisions or just a few, host everything in one big event or spread it out over multiple days or evenings whatever works best for your club and community.

The South Australia Kick Off can be facilitated on both an inside 50m of a football oval, or open green space. We recommend that at least 2 people set up the field as all the kicking points need to be measured as per the game guidelines.

  • 10x leather footballs
    • Size 5 for Men.
    • Size 4 for Youth/Women
  • 10x cones for 10 different goal kicking positions.
