Welcome to The Philadelphia Area Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners

Formed in 1991, the Philadelphia Area Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners is one of more than 200 worldwide chapters across 93 countries sponsored by the internationally renowned Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). The primary mission of the ACFE is to reduce the incidence of fraud and white-collar crime and assist the membership in its detection and deterrence.

As the local representative of the ACFE, the Philadelphia Area Chapter supports this mission through its educational programs and seminars, which promote an enhanced awareness of fraud prevention and detection techniques among its membership and throughout the business and law enforcement communities. At the same time, program attendees are provided an opportunity to earn their annual continuing education credits and network with a diverse group of professionals in related fields.

Currently, the Chapter's members represent a broad range of professions, including accountants, auditors, investigators, federal and state law enforcement personnel, loss prevention specialists, attorneys and prosecutors, BSA/AML analysts, managers and executives, academicians and anti-fraud consultants.

Learn more about the prerequisites and benefits of Chapter membership, find out about upcoming events, or just feel free to browse our site. If you're looking for something in particular and can't find it, don't hesitate to contact us.

CHAPTER ANNOUNCEMENTS

Meeting Recap- 2.3.2026

What an interesting way to kick off the new year of training! Attendees left asking us to bring them back- stay tuned!

We started off the year welcoming William Capra, Program Manager and Acting Supervisory Special Agent with Homeland Security Investigations in Philadelphia and Michael Tomchak, with Homeland Security Investigations in Philadelphia as they discussed what their department does, how they work with other law enforcement agencies/departments etc, and took us through some case studies during their presentation "Combatting Terrorist Financing – Case Studies involving Cryptocurrency". Due to the nature of their work we can't share more details here so make sure you don't miss them later this year/early 2026.

Next up is a panel discussion “Finding and Combatting Fraud in Healthcare” from the Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania Medicaid Fraud Control Units on April 21. Registration for all our upcoming trainings are open.

Congratulations to the 2025 Distinguished Achievement Award Winner- Christy Brady

It is our distinct honor to present this award to a dedicated public servant and a relentless advocate for financial integrity in Philadelphia. Christy Brady became Philadelphia's independently elected City Controller in November 2023, following a remarkable, nearly 30-year career within that very office. Starting her journey and working her way up the ranks, she ultimately became the first woman ever appointed Deputy Controller for Audit, where she oversaw complex financial reports for both the City and the School District of Philadelphia.

A Certified Public Accountant and Certified Global Management Accountant, Christy brings technical expertise and steadfast resolve to her role. Under her leadership, the Controller’s office has held the city accountable for crucial issues, including analyzing gun violence prevention funding, investigating delays in demolishing dangerous properties, and identifying millions of dollars in lost revenue from property tax fraud. She is a true fiscal watchdog, embodying accountability and integrity.

Now Offering CLE

We are pleased to announce that the Chapter has been officially approved by the Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education Board (PACLE) to offer Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits to attorneys. Going forward, attorneys can earn PA CLE credits by attending our training events, available both as in-person sessions and interactive webinars. This exciting development further enhances the value of our Chapter’s programming and strengthens our commitment to supporting the professional development of the legal community.

We encourage all Chapter members to help us spread the word about this new opportunity. If you know any attorneys or legal professionals who could benefit from our high-quality training (and earn PA CLE credits), please invite them to attend our upcoming events. Together, we can expand our network, foster collaboration, and continue advancing the fight against fraud throughout the Philadelphia region.
