makedeb
creating the future of Linux packaging
makedeb is an open-source suite of tools, designed to simplify the process of maintaining packages for Debian and Ubuntu based Linux distributions.
Debian packaging is known for not being the easiest to get into. First you have to learn new file formats specific to Debian's packaging, and then maintaining the package creates a burden as you juggle multiple files around as you build and publish your package. Other packaging systems don't require the complexities commonly seen in Debian packaging, so why not move from it?
This is where makedeb comes in. makedeb uses PKGBUILDs, a file format rooted in Arch Linux. It's designed to get your applications packaged quickly and efficiently, so you can stay focused on what you need to, developing your application.
And for end users, the makedeb Package Repository exists, providing a diverse repository of applications, with more packages being added every day. And if you prefer your packages to be precompiled, the Prebuilt-MPR exists, providing various packages from the MPR, ready to be installed on your system. Lastly, we also have Mist, which provides an easy-to-use command line interface for interacting with the MPR.
By supporting the makedeb project, you're helping the developers feel more rewarded for their work. You're helping the servers powering the services you use keep running. And ultimately, you're helping to ensure that our products that you use every day are being developed and created in healthy and sustainable ways for them to keep growing in the future.
Your donations will be used primarily towards infrastructure costs, but will also be used directly for developers of the makedeb project if budgets allow for it.
