Creating a way to directly fund a Black mutual aid advocate

  • 41 members
Black Women Exhale (BWE) is a mutual aid organization that redistributes money to Black women and femmes in need of funds. Cat Robinson (they/them) founded the organization on Juneteenth 2020 in the to offer Black women and Black femmes a reason to exhale, when they are offered very few by the powers that be. Since its inception, BWE has graduated from relocating $100 to 40 people a month to $150 to forty Black women and femmes every month! In addition to this, they post flyers for direct mutual requests Monday - Friday. BWE has aided women and femmes in tackling their debt, returning to school, escaping hostile living environments and so much more - all with the help of our stellar community.

Cat Robinson and partner Anthony Rutella (he/they) need a steady flow of pay as they continue their work with BWE. The money from this Patreon will be going to directly aid them in affording their rent and other living expenses as well as expanding the organization itself into physical spaces in both New York City and Chicago.

At the $75 and $100 tiers you will gain access to the Advocacy Workshops taught by Cat. The Workshop's capacity is 75 people and they will be held once every month for a total of 6 sessions from February 12th to July 12th. In these meetings, you will be guided on how to give back to and care for your individual communities utilizing your personal knowledge, tools and compassion. This will be a safe space of growth, empowerment and actionable brainstorming. Anyone can help their communities, especially you.

At the $150 and $200 tiers you will gain access to the Comprehensive History Lecture Series also taught by Cat. The lectures will be 1-2 hours in duration and will examine America's historical relationships with 4 aspects of Human life; Resources, Shelter/Housing, Self and The Abstract. The Series' capacity is 75 people and the lectures will be given once every week for a total of 26 sessions from February 6th to August 6th. In these classes you will be taught the fundamentals of how these aspects of life  have been retooled (and in many cases, weaponized) in America to shape and redefine our collective Consciousness through history.

The exact syllabus and guidelines for both the workshop and the lecture series will be given to the class prior to each first day. There will also be companion reading lists of free articles and texts as well as the prompt for an essay (we're talking 1-2 pages...max!) centered around your goals that YOU will use as your personal rubric.

We look forward to learning, growing and expanding with you all!

We Love You as We Love Ourselves,
BWE xx
