Corvallis Clinic Agreed to Pay $108,000 for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Paying and Receiving Remuneration in the Form of Referrals and Receiving Remuneration in the Form of Referral Fees

On July 11, 2025, The Corvallis Clinic, P.C. (Corvallis Clinic), Corvallis, Oregon, agreed to pay $108,964.56 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. OIG alleged that Corvallis Clinic: (1) paid remuneration to an ophthalmologist and his practice in the form of the routine referral of Medicare patients requiring intraocular lens (IOL) implant surgery; and (2) receiving remuneration from the ophthalmologist and his practice in the form of per patient referral fees and the routine referral of IOL surgery patients back to Corvallis Clinic for post-operative services billed with modifier-55 and paid for by Medicare.
