With the retirement of the legacy system, NERIS is now the nation’s sole incident reporting platform for the fire service. While it introduces many improvements, the most significant change is not the platform itself, but how your incident data is structured, captured, and made usable going forward.
On Sunday, December 21, 2025, the National Emergency Response Information System (NERIS) platform surpassed one million incident reports collected.
On December 9, 2025, the National Emergency Response Information System (NERIS) released NERIS Public: Fire Departments, a live geospatial dataset containing daily updated information on nearly 30,000 local fire departments across the United States. This is the first dataset available under the new [NERIS Public] banner, which will expand with additional public data services in 2026.
