  • Thank you to…

    This is a thank you kind of article. It is divided in several parts. You can read all or you can skip to your favorite section.

    1. My Family.
    2. To Organization
    3. The National Teams
    4. Team Italy
    5. To the public
    6. To Announcers and Officials
    7. To all people who help me in this project.

    My Family.

    It’s hard to live with me. I am messy, very messy. Sometime I lost the focus of situation, sometime I can prepare plan better then Annibal of A-Team. Thank you to be with me in this adventure called “Rollerderby World Cup”. It was so important for me. Now we have the biggest Adventure in our lives. I Love you so much.

    To Organization

    It was the most amazing event of my life (since now). When we arrived to Innsbruck, I cried. For the happiness to really be there. It was a dream come true (think the only thing to do for me was build a Lego Project, not playing). Everything was perfect. Thank you for you huge work.

    The National Teams

    First of all: YOU ARE GREAT. All of you played great games, be kind with a mad person that give to you a gift bag for something that only the team manager knows. Be kind with a fangirl that has heart eyes when saw you pass in front of her project. Your statement are mine, your Anthem comes into my eyes every time make me crying (thanks to my husband, I am also a anthem girl). If you need to contact me, the mail is lisa.aimi.bricks@gmail.com

    Derby Love to all!

    Team Italy

    You guys were amazing. I can feel your power inside me. During the Worldcup we didn’t meet as I imagine, but it’s ok. It was your moment, not mine. I love you all. I can promise to trying to be a skater.

    To the public

    Thanks to all people who stopped at my project and took a picture, ask me something about the project. It was really important to me. I know you don’t remember, but:

    • it is a 2 years project (form projecting to building)
    • I made all by myself
    • I am from Italy
    • It’s modular, so I can transport easily;
    • I am a supporter for Team Italy, but also for Team Argentina, Team Australia, Team Austria, Team Babushka, Team Belgium, Black Diaspora Roller Derby, Team Brasil, Team Canada, Team Chile, Chinese Nations Roller Derby, Selección Colombia, Team Czech Republic, Team Roller Derby Denmark, Team Desi, England Roller Derby, Team Finland Roller Derby, Équipe de France, Fuego Latino Roller Derby, Team GerMany, Team Greece Roller Derby, Team Iceland, Indigenous Rising Roller Derby, Team Ireland, Team Japan, Jewish Roller Derby, Team Korea, Team Latvia, Team México, Team Nederland Roller Derby, Team New Zealand, Team Norway Roller Derby, Team Philippines, Team Poland, Team Portugal, Team Puerto Rico, SALAAM Roller Derby, Team Scotland Roller Derby, Team Slovenia, Team South Africa Roller Derby, Team Spain Roller Derby, Team Sweden, Team Switzerland, Team Taiwan, USA Roller Derby, Team Vietnam Roller Derby, Wales Roller Derby, Team West Indies

    A special thanks to the children: you are superamazing. Tell to your parents to buy some Lego (used are good too) and begin to built everything you can imagine.

    To Announcers and Officials

    Your work was so great. You can entertained the public in a superlative way. I love your dresses, your patches.

    To all people who help me in this project.

    Without you I can’t do anything.

  • Why this title?

    Because they are arrived. They are wonderful. Thay has all the strengh of real rollerderby players.

    I am talking about the National Minifigures. I want to show you 48 minifigure. So, take pop-corn, a soft drink (or beer) and let start.

    The list is arranged by the final ranking.

    Here you can find all the results, day by day.

    The Podium

    I start with the podium, of course, Team USA, Team Australia and Team England.

    I want to be sincere: I saw Team England when they played vs Team Italy. And they are strong. I saw Australia playing vs New Zealand (and I cry for New Zealand because I am a little kiwi inside) and they are strong too. I didn’t see play Team USA for two reasons:

    • They played in the 1st track (and I was on T hall) and nobody can stay at my place when they was playing;
    • I didn’t see the Final for moving reason: I needed to come back home on time to prepare miself for the monday after because I worked.

    But I saw some videos on Instagram, and I think they are real alien on Earth. I think if we put the same effort like in soccer even in sports like rollerderby, we can have good results. But of course, it’s my two cents about a bigger questions that I don’t want to debate here. If you are Italians, please stop watching soccer. Please discover a World of different kind of sports. Yes, they are called sport even there is not a ball involved in. And try them. Please.

    And now?

    Now I rest a little bit. But I hope to meet you in person, if you didn’t see this project in Innsbruck.

    I have some celebrative bricks (if you want to order some, please do quickly because we are moving and it could be a very high delay time to answering and fullfilling your request) both for the public and for the National Teams. If you want to buy them, please use this form.

  • I reveal a secret

    I love so much how you loved my project during the Rollerderby World Cup.

    But I have to reveal a secret (come of you know it).

    It was missing of something.

    The minifigures didn’t arrive on itme before my departing from home.

    Yes.

    I literally spent two days at the phone and at the courier HQ to have these minifigures, but they have some problems and didn’t give me the package.

    In this package, with the minifigure, there was something else. Something I create especially for the public. Because I know everybody loves Lego and it could be great to bring home something more than a sticker.

    I create a celebrative brick because during every Lego Event, the exhibitors create personalized brick to swap with the other exhibitors and to sell to the public. It’s a sort of gift and a non-saying sentence “I was there and I had fun” (or craic as the Irish said).

    Now you can buy these bricks. It will be a little bit expensive than what I thought for the World Cup, but you have to think that the shipping are in the price you’ll pay. My advice is to have a quick chat with your friend and made only one order, in this way you’ll pay the shipping cost only one time.

    Here you can answer to some questions to receive your bricks.

    I wait for your answers!

  • Innsbruck, July 2025

    I must apologize for not writing more often. If I were to talk to myself like a SEO consultant, I’d say I’m doing a terrible job. To build audience loyalty, you should be writing every day. But alas, the days just aren’t long enough to allow me to write. And lately—take my word for it—my head has been elsewhere. So you’ll have to forgive me. That said, let’s move on.

    Innsbruck, we’re coming.

    One month to go. One month. 31 days (because today is June 2nd). I can tell you everything is packed up and wrapped in plastic, ready to be loaded into the car and set up. And I swear, I can’t wait to be there. To set it up again, just like I did in Cremona.

    But this time, it will be even richer in minifigures (notice the missing players, NSOs, refs, and all the national team representations?) just the way I like it. There will also be a section dedicated to kids with a lovely (and very hastily made) playground, right in the corner on the right side of the photos, where the tower with the commemorative bricks from my collection is located.

    But there’s more.

    For all the brick lovers who will be in Austria at the Olympia World for the World Cup, there will be the chance to buy a special commemorative brick for the event.

    And for all the national teams, to thank them for their patience with me over these past months, I’ve prepared a super surprise. Actually, two. The one I can reveal is that they’ll be able to take a photo with their own minifigure. The other is top secret.

    To buy tickets to watch the RDWC2025 in Innsbruck, here’s the link. What will you miss out on if you don’t come?

    You’ll miss:

    1. the chance to see a sport that very few know about, but that’s adrenaline-filled and incredibly inclusive;
    2. the chance to watch some of the strongest teams from around the world;
    3. tons of technical gear sponsors showing off the latest innovations;
    4. a huge selection of stickers, shirts, patches, hoodies from all the national teams on sale (during any downtime—if there is any—you might find me hunting for stickers and patches);
    5. 5 tracks where 80 bouts will be held between the teams mentioned in point 2.

    And if you really can’t make it, the link to watch the games via streaming will be available here.

    See you sooooon!

  • Innsbruck, Luglio 2025

    Per gli amanti dei mattoncini e che saranno in Austria all’Olympia World in occasione della Coppa del mondo, ci sarà l’opportunità di acquistare il mattoncino celebrativo di questa occasione.

    Per tutte le nazionali, invece, per ringraziare loro della pazienza che hanno avuto con me in questi mesi, ho preparato una super sorpresa. Anzi, due. Quella che posso spoilerare è che si potranno fare la foto con la loro minifigure. L’altra è un super segreto.

    Per acquistare i biglietti per vedere la RDWC2025 ad Innsbruck, questo è il link. Che cosa vi perdete se non venite?

    Vi perderete:

    1. la possibilità di vedere uno sport che in pochi conoscono, ma che è adrenalinico e molto inclusivo;
    2. la possibilità di vedere alcune delle squadre più forti che vengono da tutto il mondo;
    3. ci saranno tantissimi sponsor di materiale tecnico che vi mostreranno le ultime novità;
    4. tantissimi adesivi, magliette, toppe, felpe delle singole nazionali in vendita (nei tempi morti, sempre se ce ne saranno, mi potreste trovare in cerca di adesivi e toppe);
    5. 5 track dove si disputeranno 80 bout tra le squadre del punto 2;

    Se proprio non potete venire, il link per vedere le partite in streming, lo troverete qui

    A prestoooo

  • Child’s memories

    Today I’m going to tell you some things about a little girl.

    Don’t worry, I’ll tell you how they’re connected to the project.

    You just have to trust me and read everything to the end.

    Ready?

    Let’s go.

    Once upon a time.

    Once upon a time there was a little girl who lived in the Po Valley, in an ordinary town like those around the world. It was the pure 80s. Pure and beautiful. On hot summer days, while her dad washed the car in the yard, the little girl learned to skate. No one taught her how. Little by little she learned. And little by little she began to love them. She would never stop.

    And 40 years later she would do something amazing. That seeing it, she wouldn’t have even imagined that she could have done it.

    I have it. I miss it

    The little girl grew up and started collecting stickers.

    Now I don’t know if this custom of collecting stickers exists in the rest of the world. It’s a small album where there are no images. The images (which are actually stickers) are found in packets that you buy from the newsagent. The great thing is that you don’t know which stickers are inside, so you exchange them with other children.

    As she got older, the little girl began to love stickers. And now, 40 years later, she collects them every now and then for the pleasure of not wanting to stick them on (because if you have to take them off, they could get ruined and never stick back on).

    Bee.

    When the little girl went to elementary school, she did a project entirely dedicated to bees. The little girl and her classmates learned everything about bees: what they’re called, what they produce. The little girl became very passionate about bees, so much so that, once she grew up, she chose to give some important gifts as a gift, the adoption of beehives, so she could protect them better.

    As time went by, she also began to love flowers. Especially wild ones.

    Favorite cheese: none.

    I told you that the little girl lives in a town in the Po Valley, in Italy. The area in question is very famous for the presence of dairies that produce one of the excellences of the Italian culinary heritage: Parmigiano Reggiano. Since she was little, the little girl was taken to the dairies at least once a year with the school to see the magical process that allows milk to be transformed into cheese. All the children like this cheese. Except one. Who doesn’t eat it. She doesn’t eat any type of cheese, except mozzarella on pizza (and sometimes she takes it off because there’s too much).

    Fold and turn. Patience.

    Japan is a beautiful country. The little girl often sees it in cartoons and has read in her schoolbook about how strange it is. One day her mother bought her a book to make animals on paper, origami. At the first fold, the little girl got bored. And she gave up. Maybe it was the wrong paper. Maybe the patience that was missing.

    40 years later, she would like to have that book back to chase the patience that is often lacking at home.

    Ink and paper

    The 80s give way to the 90s and the 2000s. The little girl has grown up but one thing remains the same: writing. At school, the little girl’s writing wasn’t very beautiful. It was very messy. Especially the cursive. Things improved with high school. Colored pens, pencils and colored paper. A whole new world opened up to her. So much so that the stationery shop became her favorite place. So much different paper, different weights to feel and touch with her hands. A paradise.

    Then the first computer arrived. But to be able to write sensible things, she needed a “rough” on paper where she could jot down, write down what she wanted to write and give a logical sense to everything.

    The logical connection is missing.

    I had to make these prologues to be able to tell you:

    • where I am with the project;
    • give small clues to the representatives of the teams that will play in Innsbruck at the RollerDerby World Cup 2025.

    F I N I T O

    The project is finally finished. The most impressive parts are finished. Now we are at the make up part of the minifigures and flags. You don’t know how happy I am to have finished it. About a year and a half of work between planning and construction.

    When will you be able to see it?

    If you are in Italy and want to see it in preview you can see it

    • in Cremona on April 12 and 13, 2025 within the event Cremona & Bricks 2025.
    • in Fiorenzuola on May 24 and 25, 2025 within the event FioreBricks.

    The clues.

    I didn’t tell you that the little girl (who is now grown up and writing) really likes treasure hunts. If you are a representative of one of the teams that will participate in the RDWC2025, please come and see the wonder I have built and to collect a small gift and to take a picture with the minifigure we talked about in this post.

    Dovete solo fidarvi e leggere tutto fino in fondo.

    Pronti?

    Partiamo.

Erano i puri anni ’80. Puri e bellissimi.

    Inchiostro e carta

    Gli anni 80 lasciano il posto ai 90 e ai 2000. La bambina è cresciuta ma una cosa rimane la stressa: la scrittura. La bambina a scuola aveva una scrittura non troppo bella. Era molto confusionaria. Soprattutto il corsivo. Le cose sono migliorate con le scuole superiori. Penne colorate, matite e fogli colorati. Le si é aperto un mondo. Tanto da far diventare il suo luogo del cuore, la cartoleria. Tanta carta diversa, diverse grammature da sentire e toccare con le mani. Un paradiso.

    Poi è arrivato il primo Computer. Ma per poter scrivere cose sensate, c’era bisogno di una “brutta” su carta dove poter buttare giù, annotare quanto voleva scrivere e dare un senso logico a tutto.

    Il nesso logico manca.

    Ho dovuto fare questi prologhi per potervi narrare:

    • a che punto sono con il progetto;
    • dare piccoli indizi ai rappresentanti delle squadre che giocheranno ad Innsbruck al RollerDerby World Cup 2025.

    F I N I T O

    Il progetto è finalmente finito. Le parti più imponenti sono terminate. Ora siamo alla parte di make up alle minifigure e alle bandiere. Non sapete quanto sia felice di averlo terminato. Un anno e mezzo circa di lavoro tra progettazione e costruzione.

    Quando potrete vederlo?

    Se siete in Italia e volete vederlo in anteprima lo potrete vedere

    • a Cremona il 12 e 13 Aprile 2025 all’interno della manifestazione Cremona & Bricks 2025.
    • a Fiorenzuola il 24 e 25 Maggio 2025 all’interno della manifestazione FioreBricks.

    Gli indizi.

    Non vi ho detto che alla bambina (che ora è cresciuta e sta scrivendo) piacciono molto le cacce al tesoro. Se siete un rappresentante di una delle squadre che parteciperanno al RDWC2025, vi prego di venire a vedere la meraviglia che ho costruito e per ritirare un piccolo regalo e per farci una foto con la minifigure di cui abbiamo parlato in questi mesi nei nostri scambi epistolari.

  • Building with Lego: Christmas Experiences (EN)

    The Christmas holidays are for resting, for recharging, for spending time with loved ones and playing. Unless you’re a Lego fan. Because in this case, the list also includes “constantly building everything you couldn’t build in the few free moments you had during the year”.

    The time has come.

    The last orders I made on BrickLink were all two-tone: light blue and brown. If you remember the image of the project, brown and light blue are the colors I chose for the track. So, yes, I’m using the Christmas holidays to build the track.

    In November I had already started trying to figure out how to build the diabolical floor without losing my mind.

    I ruled out the following options:

    • create the instructions via the Stud.io command: it would have taken at least 3 brains to try to find an intelligent way to make them;
    • Print them in A3 format and go and check them piece by piece;

    I wanted to exclude the option to do it via the floor .io file, but in the end that was the option chosen. One of the downsides is that you have to be very careful about where you get to. Otherwise you have to start over (wasting time).

    So, taking into account that at home during the Christmas holidays all possible alarms have been inhibited and we wake up late, but I still wake up early due to professional deformation, I used the family’s sleep time to build.

    And never has time been more useful.

    The early bird catches the worm.

    Silence.
    Darkness.
    A light turns on.
    Headphones turn on and start playing a podcast or music.
    Various containers on the table have brown and blue bricks inside them.
    A hand fishes from the various containers.
    Minutes after minutes the drawing that before was just a drawing, now begins to materialize.

    Doh!

    I’m not a huge fan of the Simpsons, I admit. Homer’s exclamation is very useful to describe some problems I encountered during construction.

    Doh! No. 1

    To let spectators pass and get to the back bleachers, the bar, the toilets, I had to add a piece of flooring. This narrowed the playing field. So the original file was modified during construction. There won’t be all the space I had planned on the sides. Luckily there will be fences, so no one gets hurt.

    Doh! No. 2

    The length was resized because in the back area (between the penalty area and the track) there was more space than in the front (where the benches are). I removed two rows of bricks from the back area and put them in the front area.

    Minifigures

    And how am I doing with minifigures? I’m in a situation where I’m sending emails back to all the teams that never responded to previous emails to get permission to use their logo for the minifigures.
    The torsos are arriving, the legs have arrived.
    The announcement of the teams that will participate has been released and there are more than I expected (how nice and ugly at the same time, but I still have to think about why it is nice and ugly at the same time). But I will talk about this in another article.

    Il momento è arrivato.

    Gli ultimi ordini che ho fatto su BrickLink sono stati tutti bicolore: azzurro e marrone. Se ricordate bene l’immagine del progetto, marrone e azzurro sono i colori che ho scelto per il track. Quindi, si, le vacanze di Natale le sto utilizzando per costruire il track.

    A novembre avevo già iniziato a cercare di capire come poter costruire il diabolico pavimento senza dover perdere il senno.

    Ho escluso le seguenti opzioni:

    • creare le istruzioni tramite il comando di Stud.io: ci sarebbero voluti almeno 3 cervelli per cercare di trovare un modo intelligente per realizzarle;
    • Stamparle in formato A3 e andare a controllare pezzo per pezzo;

    Volevo escludere l’opzione farlo tramite il file .io del pavimento, ma alla fine quella è stata l’opzione scelta. Uno di lati negativi, è che bisogna stare attentissimi al punto in cui è arrivati. Altrimenti bisogna ricominciare da capo (perdendo tempo).

    Indi per cui, tenendo conto che a casa durante le vacanze di Natale sono state inibite tutte le sveglie possibili e ci si sveglia tardi, ma io comunque mi sveglio presto per deformazione professionale, ho utilizzato il tempo di sonno della famiglia per costruire.

    E mai tempo è stato più utile.

    Il mattino ha l’oro in bocca.

    Silenzio.

    Buio.

    Una luce si accende.

    Delle cuffie si accendono ed iniziano a trasmettere un podcast o della musica.

    Diversi contenitori sul tavolo hanno al loro interno mattoncini marroni e azzurri.

    Una mano pesca dai diversi contenitori.

    Minuti dopo minuti il disegno che prima era solo un disegno, ora inizia a materializzarsi.

    Doh!

    Non sono una grandissima fan dei Simpson, lo ammetto. L’esclamazione di Homer però è molto utile per descrivere alcuni problemi in cui sono incappata durante la costruzione.

    Doh! N. 1

    Per far passare gli spettatori e farli arrivare alle gradinate più in fondo, al bar, alle toilette, ho dovuto aggiungere un pezzo di pavimento. Questo ha ristretto il campo di gioco. Quindi il file originario è stato modificato in fase di costruzione. Non ci sarà tutto lo spazio che avevo previsto ai lati. Meno male che ci saranno le fence, in modo che nessuno si faccia male.

    Doh! n. 2

    La lunghezza è stata ridimensionata perché nella zona posteriore (per intenderci tra la zona del penalty e il track) c’era più spazio rispetto alla parte anteriore (dove stanno le panchine). Ho rimosso due file di mattoncini dalla zona posteriore e messe nella zona anteriore.

    Minifigures

    E a minifigure come sono messa? Sono messa che sto rimandando mail a tutte le squadre che non hanno mai risposto alle precedenti mail per avere il permesso di utilizzare il loro logo per le minifigure.

    Stanno arrivando i torsi, sono arrivate le gambe.

    È uscita la comunicazione delle squadre che parteciperanno e sono più di quelle che avevo previsto (che bello e che brutto allo stesso tempo, però devo ancora ragionarci sul perché bello e brutto allo stesso tempo). Ma di questo ne parlerò in un altro articolo.

  • Innsbruck Project Changes: Here’s What’s New (EN)

    If I could find an online counter to embed, I would embed it to tell you how long it is until the Rollerderby World Championship in Innsbruck. But I can’t find it (if you do, could you please write it down?), so I’ll tell you. I’m doing a math and it’s about 200 days until the deadline.

    The deadline is the last week of May. Because then we have to pack everything up for Innsbruck.

    Let’s see where I’ve got to.

    Costruzione

    In October the situation was what you see in the video. I was quite happy with the result. But living in the body of a Miss Precisetti, in the last few days, especially after Piace Mattoncini, I revolutionized everything a bit (did you have any doubts? I didn’t).

    Piace Mattoncini

    Let’s open a small parenthesis.

    Did you come to Piacenza to Piace Mattoncini? No? Too bad. You missed so many beautiful MOCs, so many activities for everyone. Just for you, this video was made. Scrolling through the entire gallery you can see everything that was exhibited.

    Make sure to follow the Piacenza Bricks website , because I’ll be waiting for you next year.

    Closing parenthesis Piace Mattoncini.

    Revolution

    After Piace Mattoncini, after having seen so many wonders, very well made once I got home, I took up the project again. In its entirety .

    I didn’t overturn everything, I just reinforced it. The base of the various sections was a bit too delicate. So I decided to use the MILS technique for modular construction. This allows me to carry the entire project around more safely.

    My goal is not to create content and therefore I have not made videos of the transformation of the individual areas, but today, since I have nothing to do (except a thousand other things) I will take photos of the individual modules. Assembling the entire Moc requires a certain freedom, which the table does not allow me today.

    National Minifigures

    You know that in the MOC there is a section dedicated to national teams . Since this section was born, the ideas for minifigures have been many and all enough. Printed flag and name of the nation on the back.

    Then I realized that the back would never be seen, so I will only print the national team logo . The next step was to contact all the national teams that participated in the last edition and those that exist, but have never participated and ask for permission to use their logo.

    Asking is a courtesy and cheaper than filing a worldwide complaint. The result is this:

    • The green minifigures are the ones who enthusiastically said “Yes”. For some the graphics are already ready to be printed, while for others I am waiting for the possible new logo.
    • The white ones who have not yet expressed themselves, despite having contacted them in various ways.
    • The orange one is the toughest, because it doesn’t allow the use of the logo except for purposes it decides. So now I’m trying to find a way to convince them. Maybe you’ve managed to figure out who they are (little clue: very strong, many teams, iconic). If you have any ideas, I’m available.

    Italian Championship

    As I write (Saturday and/or Sunday) the Italian Championship is taking place. I take this opportunity to insert the video of one of the Facebook live (to make you understand how to play and why this game is so beautiful) that took place in these days.

    Live 1 on Saturday afternoon

    Live 2 Saturday afternoon

    Live 3 Saturday afternoon

    If you are reading this post on Sunday, you are near Bologna, take a trip to the Palazzetto di Pilastro. And cheer them on.

    If you are far away, on the LIRD – Lega Italiana RollerDerby page , you can also find live broadcasts on Sunday.
