Pitt continues to profit off the labor of unpaid workers that make YOUR Pitt x Nike apparel. Nike has refused to pay its workers in Thailand the $900,000 they are owed from lost wages during the pandemic. Meanwhile, the University of Pittsburgh extended their apparel contract with Nike last year. Pat Narduzzi, Pitt's head football coach and a public supporter of Pitt's Nike contract and the Nike brand, is the HIGHEST PAID employee at the University by a long shot, with $5.87 million in total compensation. $900,000 is nothing to a company like Nike and an institution like The University of Pittsburgh, whose football coach makes more in 2 months than the Hong Seng workers had stolen from them collectively! Student/Worker solidarity is ESSENTIAL to righting this wrong. Please sign below to support this campaign!

WRC Report: Hong Seng Knitting
WRC Report: Hong Seng Knitting
In February 2025, Nike announced a remediation plan for the Hong Seng workers, finally acknowledging that workers’ rights were violated and that compensation is due. Nike’s compensation plan calls for workers to receive 100% of lost wages, consistent with the WRC’s long-standing recommendation, but the plan falls short in key areas, including the lack of any provision for interest. Most importantly, the plan provides only token compensation for the courageous worker leader who was forced to flee Thailand when, in retaliation for his advocacy, Hong Seng filed false criminal charges against him.

Some students at Pitt are joining a national movement of schools across the country, calling for the University to cut their contracts with Nike after they claim the company stole $800,000 from workers at the Hong Seng Knitting Factory. The goal of the organization is to hold both Pitt and Nike accountable for the production of clothing they “profit millions of dollars from.”
