Helsinki goes plant-based
Helsinki goes plant-based
Helsinki is taking a major step toward reducing both climate impact and animal suffering. The city has decided that by 2030 it will cut its public-sector purchases of meat and dairy products by half – and instead increase the share of plant-based meals.
Factory farming fuels yet another avian flu outbreak
Factory farming fuels yet another avian flu outbreak
A new outbreak of avian influenza has been confirmed at a chicken breeding facility in Sweden, where approximately 50,000 birds have been culled. Project 1882 argues that factory farming must be phased out in favor of a transition to plant-based food production.

Urge Radisson to keep their promises to the hens!
Radisson Hotel Group has promised to phase out eggs from caged hens, but instead of taking important steps toward a cage-free future, they are removing their deadline. Now we demand that one of the world’s largest hotel chains keeps its promise to hens worldwide.
Ban the breeding of Frankenchickens
Ban the breeding of Frankenchickens
Frankenchickens grow so fast that they experience pain, become ill, and die prematurely. Many develop some form of mobility disorder already after 35 days before their lives end between 35-42 days of age. By then, they have grown 50 times their size from hatching. The parents of the Frankenchickens are forced to endure hunger and thirst to prevent their rapid growth. This is because the parents' sole task is to lay as many new eggs as possible, which can hatch into a multitude of new Frankenchickens. Therefore, Project 1882 now urges the EU-commission to act by working for a ban on the breeding of Frankenchickens.
EU Commission: Keep your promises to the animals
EU Commission: Keep your promises to the animals
To the European Commission: It's time to improve European animal welfare. Billions of animals in Europe suffer each year. Nowhere in the world are there more animals, than on factory farms. They are treated as products, even though they are sentient individuals with their own interests and needs.
Ban octopus farming
Ban octopus farming
Project 1882 has previously drawn attention to the fact that the world's first commercial octopus farm is about to open in Gran Canaria, Spain. Octopus farming raises octopuses in captivity for the commercial sale of their meat. This octopus factory would result in one million octopuses being killed for food each year. In addition, the breeding of different types of octopuses is planned in several other countries, including Mexico and Japan. EU Ban

Progress: Huge reduction of hens in cages in 2024
According to the latest statistics from the Swedish egg industry, the proportion of hens kept in cages decreased to just under one percent in 2024. This means that over 90,000 hens have been saved from a life of confinement. Project 1882 firmly recommends a cage ban to phase out the remaining cages.

Adopting animals
Adopting animals
Project 1882 wants to encourage those who have the opportunity to expand their family with an animal to adopt homeless individuals from shelters or organisations. Adopting an animal doesn’t change the entire world. But it can change someone’s entire world.
What we do for the animals
What we do for the animals
Project 1882 works globally to make a difference for the animals that are the most exploited and suffer the worst. We work for the chickens, cows, pigs, fish and other animals that need our help – we are here to give them a voice and defend their rights. We have been doing this work since 1882.
