Response from the faculty
In terms of supervision, we received the following response from Andy Zaidman and Alan Hanjalic:
"Most new assistant professors in the so-called academic career track do get training in PhD supervision, but not everyone has had it. Therefore, the EEMCS faculty has highly recommended that all faculty members should receive training for PhD supervision. That will happen after summer."
In terms of the hiring process for new PhDs/Postdocs, we received signals from the faculty that steps are being made in order to make the process more "two-sided". An An idea that was brought up: during hiring process, have a talk with previous supervised PhD students.
