GROUP SUPERVISION: "ANALYST AS INSTRUMENT" - 10-week virtual live training course. Dates: January 15 - March 26, 2025. This innovative group supervision course offers students a transformative experiential approach to understanding their patients through the therapist’s own internal responses. The course is entitled “The Analyst as Instrument” because the focus is on how the clinician uses his/her own feelings, thoughts, sensations, and perceptions in each therapeutic session as an avenue to the most acute understanding of their patients. Students learn through firsthand sharing of clinical struggles what is deflected and projected out from the patient’s internal world.

February 28, 2026 (11am-1pm EST): Psychobiography Reading Group Dedicated to Harry Guntrip. - Psychohistory Forum
Harry Guntrip (1901–1975) occupies a unique place in the history of psychoanalysis. Unlike most of the field’s great contributors, Guntrip did not simply theorize about the unconscious from a position of clinical authority — he made his own psyche the laboratory for his most profound discoveries. A theologian turned psychoanalyst, analysand of both W.R.D. Fairbairn and D.W. Winnicott, and a major theorist of object relations in his own right, Guntrip’s legacy rests on an act of remarkable courage and intellectual honesty: he recorded every session of his two analyses and, knowing he was dying, prepared them for posthumous publication. The result is an unprecedented window into the consulting rooms of two psychoanalytic giants and into the inner world of a man who refused to stop searching for psychological truth until the very end of his life.

Artificial intelligence is already woven into ordinary life. People use AI to draft and revise writing, collect and summarize information for talks and presentations, plan schedules and routines, organize projects, translate, tutor, and “think alongside” a system that can imitate conversation and expertise. In many settings, AI now influences practical decisions — what to prioritize, what to trust, what to buy, how to respond, and how to interpret events.

Robert Jay Lifton (1926–2025) was one of the most influential psychohistorical thinkers of the past century, and a major voice in understanding violence, trauma, totalism, and human resilience. This Psychohistory Forum meeting will be devoted to celebrating his life and carefully evaluating his legacy — as a clinician of the human condition, a pioneering psychohistorian, and a moral witness to some of the darkest and most consequential events of modern history. We will bring together several speakers (to be announced soon) to reflect on Lifton’s work, its impact on their own scholarship and practice, and its continuing relevance for understanding today’s world.
