Tell Lawmakers Vote YES to More Homes
Minnesota needs more than 100,000 new homes to meet the needs of all of our families and neighbors across our state. Too many Minnesotans are competing for too few homes, driving up home prices and rent for everyone. This year, thousands of Minnesotans and dozens of organizations are speaking up to say âYes to Homesâ alongside bipartisan legislative champions. Together, we introduced the Starter Home Act, a practical solution that allows more homes in a range of types and sizes to be built in more places, at lower costs. Our bill is now moving forward. The next step is for the bill to be considered by the Minnesota House in the Housing Finance and Policy Committee on Tuesday, March 3rd, at 3 PM. Email committee members and ask them to support the Starter Home Act!

WHAT? Demand your city council member and mayor extend eviction pre-filing notices. Demand the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners and Chief Judge Kerry Meyer delay eviction proceedings and move eviction hearings online. Demand Governor Walz issues an eviction moratorium. WHY? Rental assistance is being proposed by city, county, and state partners, as well as in absolutely unprecedented ways by our community, but it takes weeks or months for funds to reach the families who need them, and the funds are not enough. As we are in crisis, without more time, renters will face eviction filings that permanently damage their housing records and push them toward homelessness, even if assistance later becomes available. Extending the notice period helps renters stay housed and also helps landlords recover rent payments rather than navigating costly, time-consuming evictions and vacancies.
