A project organized by a group of MSW students at the University of Kansas to increase the use of voteriders, a program that assists in the acquisition of IDs.

In the face of regulations on what local resources "nonresidential homeless" individuals in Lawrence, Kansas can receive, we recognized a big issue. These individuals would lose access to resources that could help them get identifying documents and could even lead to their disenfranchisement. In aiming to help with this problem we identified a resource that can help with the recovery and acquisition of identifying documents required for voting. Given that many documents required for registration to vote also help with employment and housing, we wanted to raise awareness of and increase the use of voteriders, and organization that covers costs and transportation associated with the acquisitions of ID required to register to vote.

What are we here for?

VoteRiders Assistance Form

Using the assistance form if you are unhoused:
1. Fill out your First and Last name
2. Input your email, if you don't have one call the helpline at 866-432-8683
3. Add a phone number for contact if desired
4. Fill out the field "how can we help?". If you would like to use this resource to acquire documents needed for voting such as a state ID or passport (other  documents also qualify)
5. Fill out the description section. Mention being unhoused here and using this resource to both get franchised (the ability to vote) and to recover documents. This is also a good place to mention that the Homeless Resource Center has authorized their address for use with this resource.
