what is EDS?

hypermobile ehlers danlos syndrome, or h-EDS, is one of 13 subtypes of EDS. EDS is a rare connective tissue disorder. 
EDS affects many areas of the body, considering that connective tissues support your skin, tendons, ligaments, blood vessels, internal organs, and bones. collagen is the main component of connective tissue and EDS affects the structure and function of collagen produced. 

while each subtype has unique challenges, there are a few common traits, such as joint hypermobility and stretchy/fragile skin. each subtype has a genetic marker inherited from it except for h-EDS, which has no tests to confirm. treatment for EDS includes PT and OT, as well as mobility aids and braces.

research on EDS is still lacking, so there is a big emphasis on bringing awareness and education, esp in the medical field. the lack of knowledge on EDS by the medical profession as a whole is quite harmful to us and typically leads to frequent medical burnout and medical trauma.
