Animals used in biomedical research experience confinement, invasive procedures, and often death — without consent. We believe animal testing is morally wrong because animals can feel pain and suffering just like humans. Scientific progress does not justify cruelty.

When the National Institutes of Health funds animal experiments with taxpayer money, the public has the right to criticize those practices openly. Silencing words like “animal” or “cruel” prevents ethical accountability.

If harm is being done, shouldn’t the public be allowed to speak about it?

The NIH funds biomedical research that has led to life-saving treatments for cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, COVID-19, and more. Some of this research involves animal testing because current alternatives cannot fully replicate complex biological systems.

Our mission is to advance human health. While animal welfare matters, many scientific breakthroughs would not exist without animal research. Social media pages are meant to inform the public about scientific progress — not become overwhelmed by repetitive or hostile debate.

Should we be allowed to moderate discussions to keep them focused and productive?
