Why âLiving Intelligenceâ Is the Next Big Thing
Why âLiving Intelligenceâ Is the Next Big Thing
AI is merely one facet of a sweeping technological change underway, and companies that fail to recognize the importance of other converging technologies risk being left behind. Two other technologies â advanced sensors and biotechnology â are less visible, though no less important, and have been quietly advancing. Soon, the convergence of these three technologies is going to underpin a new reality that will shape the future decisions of every leader across industries. This is the new reality of âliving intelligenceâ: systems that can sense, learn, adapt, and evolve, made possible through artificial intelligence, advanced sensors and biotechnology. Living intelligence will drive an exponential cycle of innovation, disrupting industries, and creating entirely new markets. Leaders who focus solely on AI without understanding its intersections with these two other technologies risk missing a wave of disruption already forming.
How to Do Strategic Planning Like a Futurist
How to Do Strategic Planning Like a Futurist
Chief strategy officers and those responsible for shaping the direction of their organizations are often asked to facilitate âvisioningâ meetings. This helps teams brainstorm ideas, but it isnât a substitute for critical thinking about the future. Neither are the one-, three-, or five-year strategic plans that have become a staple within most organizations, though they are useful for addressing short-term operational goals. Futurists think about time differently, and company strategists could learn from their approach. For any given uncertainty about the future â whether thatâs risk, opportunity, or growth â we tend to think in the short- and long-term simultaneously. To do this, consider using a framework that doesnât rely on linear timelines or simply mark the passage of time as quarters or years. Instead, use a time cone that measures certainty and charts actions.

Bringing True Strategic Foresight Back to Business
Bringing True Strategic Foresight Back to Business
Strategy and foresight were once the same discipline. And they should be again. The immediacy of day-to-day operations can lead to a strategic process that is more about ticking boxes and filling templates, which often end up languishing, unopened, in an inbox. With modern updates and improvements to these combined disciplines, leaders can sharpen their vision for the future, empowering managers to make informed strategic choices and propelling teams towards superior performance. This domain is true strategic foresight : a disciplined and systematic approach to identify where to play, how to win in the future, and how to ensure organizational resiliency in the face of unforeseen disruption. This article aims to define strategic foresight for leaders, advocating for its integration as a core competency in every organization, regardless of size.
