Climate Action Campaign CAC: Republicans' Failure to Fund the Government Puts Americans at Risk - Climate Action Campaign
"Our families and communities are suffering while polluters enjoy generous taxpayer-funded handouts. Republicans need to get back to the table, end this shutdown, and do the people’s business as they were elected to do.”
Extreme Weather Emergency Map
Extreme Weather Emergency Map
From life-threatening heat to massive wildfires, increased tornado activity, and supercharged rainstorms, climate change is making extreme weather more frequent, more intense, more costly – and more deadly. Extreme weather affects Americans across the nation, particularly the most vulnerable among us: those without air conditioning, those who make their living working outside, and those whose homes aren’t equipped to withstand strong winds, heavy rain, and damaging flooding. Research shows a marked increase in heat waves, heavy downpours, floods, and other dangerous weather events over the last 50 years.

The Climate Stripes are a powerful visual representation of the rising temperatures from 1850 to the present. Each stripe represents the average temperature of a specific year, moving from cooler blues to alarming reds as temperatures increase. This striking visualization highlights the undeniable trend of global warming caused by human activities.

Flooding in Texas. Extreme heat in Arizona. Fires in California. Disasters like these are becoming more frequent, more intense, and more costly because of climate change. We all can see that our communities are vulnerable to extreme weather, but the Trump administration is repealing standards that protect our health and cut the pollution driving the climate crisis. They’re dismantling the EPA, NOAA, NWS, FEMA, and other agencies that provide critical support and services to help people prepare and respond to disasters. When disaster strikes, no one wins – except polluters. The Trump administration and its allies are gutting the very agencies that protect us, all to serve their billionaire oil and gas backers. We need to keep climate solutions on the books and be ready to respond to extreme weather disasters. Join us in urging the Trump administration to stop undermining pollution standards and stop weakening the EPA, NOAA, NWS, FEMA, and other critical federal agencies.

Those who voted to pass this reconciliation bill, turned their backs on our clean energy future, raising our utility bills while mortgaging our health and environment to deliver massive tax breaks for billionaires. This bill is the most anti-environment bill in history. As a direct result of today’s vote, hundreds of thousands of Americans will lose their jobs. Families will pay higher energy bills. Climate pollution will increase, and kids will struggle with asthma and other respiratory problems, while millions will lose their health insurance. And more people will suffer from devastating extreme weather catastrophes. This travesty of a bill benefits the wealthy at the cost of every other person in this country. We must thank the elected officials who stood up for Americans and voted no on this bill and deliver a simple message to those who put billionaires over the rest of us: do better.

The Climate Wins Here map depicts the investments made in communities nationwide through President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. This resourceful map is based on announced and awarded federal dollars and categorizes the investments as clean energy and power, clean transportation, environmental resilience and remediation, and infrastructure. The map reflects billions of dollars in already-delivering investments in slashing pollution and accelerating the transition to a clean economy–and that number is growing.
