Thornbury has been crying out for a place like the Port Tavern. What a fabulous experience. From the menu to the staff and the surroundings, this place has it all. Highly recommended! And a gorgeous patio to boot.

Chef Mark McEwan delivers yet again with The Port Tavern in Thornbury.
We’ve eaten there many times and it consistently is a 10/10 experience. From warm summer nights on their patio, overlooking the Thornbury Harbour or cozy winter days, the food and atmosphere are so flavourful and vibrant and the staff is always welcoming and knowledgeable. Highly recommend for lunch or dinner

I’ve been on the fence about writing this review but have been thinking about it for over a week now and decided to. My family and I dined at the Port Tavern on Sept. 24. My husband and I are members at the Royal Harbour Resort and spend a lot of in Thornbury but hadn’t gotten the chance to dine at the restaurant. My mother was coming up to visit for a couple days so we figured we would take her there. The restaurant itself is stunning. Having seen previous businesses at that location over the years, we were really impressed by the little details that curated an intimate yet elevated dining experience.

Our server, though dismissive when we had questions about the menu, was overall attentive. My husband had the curried pickerel and my mother and I opted to share the 14oz  ribeye.

Immediately when the steak it arrived, my mom had apprehensions about the cut of meat as we’ve had many ribeyes in our life and it looked more like a sirloin. Regardless of the type of steak, we had ordered it medium rare and were disappointed when it came out more of a medium well sear. It was also smaller than we had anticipated.

Learning after the fact that the restaurant changed over to its fall menu the next day and the ribeye was not featured, we figure we were likely correct by assuming that was not the cut of meat we got. What we ate was still tasty and my husband thoroughly enjoyed his fish but when paying almost $90 for a steak and a bill that came to over $270, we were just left wanting a little more from the experience.

My husband and I had the pleasure of getting married at The Port this summer, and the entire experience was truly spectacular! We worked closely with Eric throughout the planning process, and on the big day, Courtney was our day-of coordinator—both were absolutely wonderful, attentive, and a joy to work with.

We hosted 60 guests and held our ceremony on the beautiful patio space. The staff had everything perfectly set up, with all décor thoughtfully arranged, making the day completely stress-free. The food was incredible—one of the main reasons we chose The Port—and our guests are still raving about the meal weeks later!

Every staff member went above and beyond to ensure everything ran smoothly, and no request was ever too much. It was a 12/10 experience, and I couldn’t recommend The Port more highly, whether you’re planning a special event or just looking for a fantastic dining experience.
