Held each October, the Detroit Free Press Marathon prides itself on the diverse and international feel of its racecourse, showing off its iconic neighborhoods, like Woodbridge with its Victorian homes, the historic Eastern Market district, and Dequindre Cut greenway, which is rich in street art. The route even crosses international borders! With a sunrise run over the Ambassador Bridge and the unique underwater mile through the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel, this marathon is one of a kind. This well-organized race cuts congestion by releasing runners in three-minute intervals, and the fastest runners win sizable cash prizes. The Detroit Free Press Marathon is sponsored by Detroit Free Press, part of USA TODAY CO. alongside USA TODAY 10BEST.
