Landowners and land managers: Getting started with good fire
Landowners and land managers: Getting started with good fire
We launched our Fire Forward program in 2016 to bring together private landowners, public agencies, and conservation partners around a shared purpose of stewarding ecosystems and reducing the impact of wildfire. We do this by training and supporting growing numbers of community members to be self-sufficient in prescribed burning on their own and neighboring lands. […]

All Hands Ecology cares about sharing more information about prescribed fire and smoke. While some smoke is released from prescribed burning, the burns we conduct have many measures in place to mitigate and minimize smoke exposure and associated negative impacts to our surrounding communities. Children, older adults, and those with respiratory conditions should consider limiting outdoor activities, and using an air filter at home if local air quality is poor. Sign up here for email notifications of planned prescribed burn activities in your neighborhood.

North Bay residents join together to tend nearly 1,000 acres with good fire
North Bay residents join together to tend nearly 1,000 acres with good fire
A breathtaking night burn in the coastal mountains of northwest Sonoma County. A wildfire scar in Santa Rosa tended by many hands and good fire. A coastal prairie on the Nicasio Reservoir seeded with hope in fertile ash. In 2024 we cooperatively burned nearly 1,000 acres with partners across the North Bay, a number that doubled since 2020. Our 12-person prescribed fire module launched in early last year has also contributed to the increased capacity, resulting in a 30 percent increase in prescribed burns either led or supported by our team. Join us for a lookback at our favorite moments of cooperative burning in 2024.

Apprenticeships are creating career pathways in conservation
Apprenticeships are creating career pathways in conservation
An investment in people Viable career opportunities in conservation are essential for addressing the social, ecological, and economic challenges of our times. According to a 2023 California Natural Resources Agency report, California will need an estimated 100,000 new workers in nature-based careers by 2035. Yet access to this growing sector is not equitable. People […]
