A weak understanding of authentication tools can prevent people from accessing their own accounts.

For individuals experiencing homelessness, disability, economic precarity, or generational digital gaps, digital exclusion quickly becomes administrative exclusion.

Digital Dignity is a community-based initiative designed to restore digital accessibility through secure practices, intergenerational collaboration, and shared governance of personal data.

This is not charity.

This is infrastructure for dignity.

The Imperative

Digital systems now mediate :

Housing applications

Healthcare portals

Government benefits

Employment

Social connection

Yet digital literacy and security awareness remain unevenly distributed.

The consequences are not minor inconveniences, they are structural barriers.

When access depends on passwords, devices, authentication apps, and recovery codes, a simple technical misunderstanding can escalate into real-world exclusion.

The digital divide is no longer about internet access alone.

It is about data governance, security reflexes, and long-term digital continuity.

The Challenge

Digital Dignity builds structured, community-based environments where individuals can :

Strengthen password and passphrase practices

Understand authenticator tools and 2FA systems

Organize and secure critical digital documents

Learn recovery protocols

Develop security reflexes through practical exercises

Instead of a top-down mentorship model, D6 workshop promotes :

Intergenerational collaboration

Peer-to-peer learning

Shared problem-solving

Respect for lived experience

Participants define the role they wish to play.

Learning and contribution coexist.

The Strategy

D6 Workshop combines collective digital accessibility, participatory security, ethical safeguards, swap friction with solution.

Beyond individual autonomy, members collaborate to reclaim control of their data. Structured exercises strengthen analytical thinking, security awareness, and confidence in navigating digital systems.

Safe, structured challenges, password audits, phishing simulations, recovery drills, encourage engagement.

Achievements can be recognized through non-speculative tokenized rewards, reinforcing collaboration and good security habits.

All participation is consent-based.

Accounts are accessed only with permission, data retention is transparent, and privacy is prioritized.

Methods are educational, not intrusive.

Our Goal : Empower members to govern their digital lives responsibly, collaboratively, and confidently.

The Governance Framework

Digitalization through the workshops is the central objective of D6, the visible foundation of the project.

Once digitalized, participants can take action in the community (recycling, cleaning public spaces, social participation (workshop, sustained engagement).

These actions are valued through a fair human-centered reward system, tracked and automated for greater efficiency and fairness.

Contributions are recognized and celebrated, creating motivation and continuity.

The project expands, involving more participants and additional social and private partners.

In the long term, a social micro-economy can develop, integrating value, exchange, and sustained engagement.

The prophetic impact manifests : autonomy, dignity, a strengthened community, and recognition of both visible and invisible contributions.

My name is Karim. I arrived in the United States in 2010 and spent years working in the restaurant industry a field that demanded a lot from me.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I finally had the time to reconnect with what truly interests me : digital tools and emerging technologies.

Life circumstances later brought me close to housing insecurity, where I witnessed firsthand the very real digital challenges people in my community face.

I helped friends switch phone carriers, close accounts after phone theft, recover emails, navigate the DMV, and understand confusing online systems.

Most importantly, I listened.

This workshop was created to turn that lived experience into structured support.

With the guidance of Skid Row Care Campus, I am building a space where digital support becomes accessible, practical, and community-driven.
