In the months since, the pace of change has been remarkable. Platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, Dremio, RisingWave, ClickHouse, Cloudera, Lakekeeper, Trino Software Foundation, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have delivered significant new integrations, and Apache Iceberg itself has reached version 1.10.0, introducing capabilities that reshape how practitioners interact with the format. To reflect this momentum, we are undertaking a ground-up rewrite. Our priorities include: ✅ Iceberg 1.10.0 alignment and deprecation cleanup – removing outdated recipes that no longer reflect best practices while upgrading all demos, examples, and exercises to incorporate the changes introduced in Iceberg 1.10.0. For example, Snowflake’s support for catalog-linked databases to external catalogs makes earlier object integration recipes obsolete. ✅ Ecosystem validation – testing and refining recipes across Databricks, Snowflake, Dremio, and AWS to ensure seamless interoperability with Iceberg 1.10.0. We expect this rewrite to take two to three months. Moving fast is easy when you’re small, but harder when you’re building at global scale. Not every problem needs a custom app - sometimes the smartest solution is the simplest one. Last week, I received a call from a travel business owner who recently launched a small bus service. Owner: Sir, I started a travel company that runs buses. How much would it cost to build an app like Abhibus or Redbus? I want to list my buses and allow reservations through the app. Me: How many buses do you currently operate? Owner: Just 3 for now. Me: And how many routes? Owner: Only 2 (A-B and B-A). Me: How soon do you plan to scale to 15-20 buses? Owner: Probably 3-4 years, maybe longer. Me: In that case, rather than investing in building your own app, I’d recommend listing your buses on existing platforms like Redbus or Abhibus. These platforms already have customers, so you can skip the heavy marketing costs. Of course, I can help you build an app - but development is just one part. You’ll also need to invest continuously in user acquisition, marketing, support, and platform maintenance. At your current scale, it makes more sense to focus on delivering a great customer experience and building your brand. Once you grow and have stronger traction, we can revisit the app idea. As a software solutions provider, it’s not just about building apps - it’s about solving real problems in the most cost-effective and startup-friendly way.
