AI adoption in Malaysia is growing. In fact, we’re starting to sprint. 78% of Malaysians already use AI tools regularly, well above the global average. Nearly half of users save more than an hour a day using AI. People are also optimistic. 68% of Malaysians feel positive about AI, one of the highest levels in Asia Pacific. But there are two big gaps. - First, 60% of employees worry AI could affect their jobs. - Second, only 32% of workers say leadership provides clear direction on how AI should be used. So the real challenge isn’t entirely just adoption. Happy Monday! What's it going to be for the telco industry this year? Kenanga Research’s latest take on Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) highlights a sector still clouded by uncertainty — and that uncertainty matters. DNB ownership & control still unclear: With MOF Inc exercising its put option on 1 Dec 2025, its entire stake in DNB is set to be transferred equally to Maxis, CelcomDigi and YTL Power (YES). While the RM327.9m per party is balance-sheet manageable for the larger players, the deal must close by 1 Feb 2026 — and until it does, questions remain around: -Final shareholding structure -Who leads decision-making -Accounting treatment and future capex commitments While DNB's performance could improve when MNOs transition from usage billing to fixed fee billing , it is not a guarantee. What this means: • The 5G setup in Malaysia is still uncertain, and that uncertainty makes it harder for telcos to plan profits, capex, and dividends with confidence. • Even though Maxis, CelcomDigi and YTL can afford the DNB buy-in, decision making is still unclear — and that matters for cost, strategy and execution. • Telcos are likely to pay more for 5G over time as billing shifts from usage-based to fixed minimum fees. This improves DNB’s sustainability, but pressures MNO margins. • Because of this risk, fixed-line players are in a safer position — they’re less exposed to 5G structural uncertainty. • The rollout of the second 5G network (NW2) creates near-term business opportunities for infrastructure, tower, fibre and engineering companies, even if MNO earnings stay tight. • Investors should expect selective upside, not a broad sector rally — dividends, infra plays, and value-unlocking deals (like Edotco) are where optimism sits. 5G is progressing, but the rules of the game are still being written. Until DNB’s structure and costs are clear, telcos will grow — just with tighter margins and more cautious capital allocation. #telconews #technology #recruitment

A project I had the privilege of leading at CIMB was recently recognised in the industry. But honestly? What matters most to me is the team behind the build. We didn’t just ship features. We built ‘TWO’ wealth management platforms (one self-served, one for relationship managers) — with a single focus: improving the digital experience for our users. It wasn’t easy. It never is. And to say it was just a few debates, late nights, sprint planning sessions, scope creeps, and realignments would be an OVERSIMPLIFICATION. It was messy, exhausting, and frustrating. AI will decimate our IT workforce. The entry level fresh graduates today will suffer but the ones in school now will learn skills their seniors did not get the chance to learn - being AI native.

Monday’s Topic: Transformation Is Survival, It’s No Longer Optional. If your company is spending more than RM 5-10 million implementing an IT project don’t just entrust it to your IT division. Not that they’re incapable but it isn’t just a tech upgrade. It’s an attempt to rewire how a business operates. That’s a Digital transformation project. According to McKinsey, digital transformation is to continuously deploy tech at scale to improve customer experience and reduce cost. Yes, cost can be seen as one of the biggest IT responsibility and they can own it. But customer service is a shared responsibility - various organisation units MUST be together on this. If left alone to IT, the project will mainly be focusing on cost and expected business transformation dissipates. I see this happening all the time. With nearly 90% of global companies undergoing some form of digital transformation, the message is clear: if you’re not transforming, you’re falling behind - lower revenue, lower margins, lower customer trust, lower staff efficiency and higher cost / technology debt. But what does this mean practically? It means digital must move from the IT department into the business and even into the boardroom. It must align to business outcomes, be led by the CEO, and be embedded in how people, systems, and decisions function every day. Transformation is no longer about adopting new tech.
