Athena Infonomics is proud to serve on the Technical Advisory Group for Data Governance under the “Public Data Systems Strengthening in Bangladesh (PDSSB)” initiative. Led by the Prime Minister’s Office, Local Government Division, Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE), and a2i, this initiative aims to develop a national data governance framework that strengthens public data systems for better decision-making. As part of this effort, Athena Infonomics spearheaded the contextualization of CWIS indicators and the development of a measurement framework for Bangladesh, which will soon be published under the aegis of the Local Government Division. This work is a critical step toward building robust, interoperable, and actionable data systems that drive evidence-based governance and sustainable urban sanitation outcomes. At the ‘Strengthening Public Data Systems for Sanitation in Bangladesh’ (SPDSSB) workshop, Sonia Shahid emphasized a critical point: building a strong data use culture within LGIs and government departments is key to making the data governance framework a reality. When data becomes part of everyday decision-making, principles like quality, integrity, security, and accessibility move from theory to practice.  This culture not only drives demand for reliable and interoperable data but also fosters accountability, transparency, and trust. By normalizing evidence-based planning and collaboration, we can shift governance from reactive to proactive, making systems more efficient, equitable, and responsive to community needs.
