✨🕊️In our current Peace Unit, elementary school students in care homes within our programs are exploring the role of diplomacy in building a more peaceful world.🌍✨ 📚🧠Through a shared reading activity, students learned about the important work diplomats do to foster understanding and cooperation between countries. They strengthened their emotional skills by reflecting on the challenges and perspectives of characters in the story, and used their social skills to thoughtfully express how those individuals may have felt and thought in complex situations.🗣️ Building on this foundation, students applied their thinking skills by simulating the role of a diplomat for their own created country. Each student wrote a peace letter to another country facing a challenge, practicing conflict resolution, empathy, and constructive communication.💌❤️ In addition to developing emotional, social, and critical thinking skills, students also strengthened their digital literacy by drafting and designing their peace letters on Canva. Through projects like these, we continue to empower children with the tools, confidence, and compassion needed to become thoughtful global citizens.🏆💭 #YouthForFuture #YFF #NonProfit #NPO #児童養護施設

Last Sunday, we held our first professional development (PD) day for volunteer staff at NPO Youth For Future, which included training on child safeguarding and classroom management strategies. The first half of the day focused on introducing our newly drafted Child Safeguarding Policy, which was developed in collaboration with counselors, administrator-level staff from international schools, and a legal advisor. This session provided an opportunity for volunteers to better understand how to create safer environments at our camps—for both children and staff. This was followed by an open discussion on the drafted policy, to address questions, concerns, or feedback which will be taken into account. We are planning to publish our Child Protection Policy publicly in the following weeks. During the second half of the day, we were joined by an educator from Shinagawa International School, Berfin Kara, specializing in supporting children with learning difficulties. This session centered on classroom management strategies, particularly within contexts involving diverse learning needs. #YouthForFuture #YFF #NonProfitOrganization #NPO #CareHome

Last month, in partnership with J.P. Morgan in Japan, we held a special Culture Day program at one of the care homes where we run our regular activities. With more than 30 participants, the aim of the program was to introduce Mexican culture and celebrations to the children. We began the day by making tacos, with children and volunteers from J.P. Morgan and Youth For Future working together to prepare the fillings. The children especially enjoyed taking the lead during the cooking process, demonstrating confidence and a strong sense of ownership. After enjoying the tacos and also making rice krispies for dessert, we were treated to an engaging presentation on the origins of tacos and the tradition of piñata celebrations. This was followed by an energetic Kahoot quiz, where table groups competed to showcase their new learnings. We concluded the day with a piñata party, using piñatas that had been thoughtfully prepared in advance. Overall, it was a meaningful day that combined challenge, learning, and fun—allowing children to interact with new faces while discovering a new culture in a hands-on way. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the J.P. Morgan team for making this wonderful collaboration possible. Photography credit: Toru Hiiragi

We are happy to share the highlight video from our very first overnight camp co-hosted alongside a local kodomo-shokudo and several other organizations! 🏕️ Over 30 children — from elementary to high school — joined us, together with volunteers from nearly a dozen different countries 🌏 Kodomo-shokudos are community-based spaces across Japan that provide meals, a safe place, and a sense of belonging for children who may face poverty or lack support after school. If there is one word that captures what this camp represents, it is global citizenship. At Youth For Future, we believe that the first step to becoming a global citizen is understanding that you are not alone in this world — that you are part of a local, national, and global community. Through this camp, we aimed to help children recognize these connections and, in doing so, broaden their perspectives on both their abilities and potential. 🌱 Special thanks to #横浜市立みなと総合高校 #横浜市立戸塚高校定時制 for participating in the program as well!

[日本語は英語の後] We just wrapped up our very first co-hosted overnight cultural exchange camp 🏕️ in partnership with the local kodomo-shokudo (@gajumaru415) and several other organizations, including @artmiraizu.official — and Day 1 photos are now available! 📸 With most of the participants being children who regularly attend local kodomo-shokudo programs, the camp brought together over 25 children from elementary to high school, along with volunteers from nearly a dozen countries 🌏. For many of these children, it was their first time interacting with people from so many different countries, giving them a chance to expand their perspectives and horizons ✨ The afternoon began with a lively ice-breaker activity, where everyone connected through games from around the world 🎲 Later, we held an outdoor nature exploration, encouraging children to use their curiosity and investigation skills to discover natural materials like pinecones and leaves. In the evening, after sharing a delicious curry dinner 🍛, we moved on to the highlight of the night — the “Candle Fire” activity 🕯️, a beautiful tradition of the camp facility. With the room glowing in candlelight, we played fun games such as Silent Library, Swedish Darumasan-ga-Koronda, and the classic Duck Duck Goose, which became the crowd favorite 🐥 We can’t wait to share Day 2 photos and our highlight video 🎬 very soon — stay tuned!

We’re beyond excited to share that this October we’ll be co-hosting our very first residential camp, together with a kodomo-shokudo and several wonderful supporting organizations! This camp’s theme is all about international exchange 🌍🤝 — our incredible volunteers from diverse backgrounds and nationalities will join the children to inspire them to dream bigger, reaching beyond Japan and into the wider world. We can’t wait to take this step into a brand-new experience alongside the children — and we hope this will be just the beginning of many more camps like this in the future. 💫 #ResidentialCamp #InternationalExchange #KodomoShokudo #YouthForFuture

🚀 Phase 2 of our program is officially underway! Over the next 4 to 5 months, our middle and high school students from care homes will embark on their own passion projects, combining their hobbies with a social issue that they care about, aiming to create a difference in the world. By the end, each student will create and present either a product or an experience, which they will be investigating, planning, taking action, and reflecting upon, sharing it in the end during the spring camp held in February. For example, one student who loves puzzles and cares deeply about the issue of disaster prevention is designing a puzzle that teaches young children what to do in the case of an earthquake. Once complete, the product will be shared with schools and other children in care homes to raise awareness and spark preparedness. Currently, the students are in the process of developing their ideas and formulating them into a "project proposal," which outlines what their project/experience will be, the essential question they will be answering, the resources they will use for research, and the deadlines they set for themselves. This project is especially empowering for the children in the care homes we work with, as it allows them to explore their interests and gain guidance and mentorship in taking it forward as they become independent adults by the age of 18. This project will also further allow them to understand what kind of career/job would fit best for them, through experimentation of different passion projects in the following few years. We are so excited to see how these projects unfold as the children step into this new chapter of their journey. #YouthForFuture #GlobalIdentityProgram #PassionProjects #StudentLeadership #Phase2 #YouthEmpowerment

Summer Camp 2025 Highlight Video is Here! 🎉 Our Summer Camp is a special two-day program held at the end of each semester, designed to celebrate the learning, growth, and creativity of children from care homes. Day 1 gives the children a platform to showcase the projects they’ve worked on throughout the term — sharing their ideas, creativity, and hard work with peers, sponsors, and volunteers. Day 2 is all about celebration and having fun! This camp we spent the day at Tonndemi, a trampoline park where they jumped, raced, and laughed together, making memories that will last long after camp ends. [Day 2] Highlights of Summer Camp! Day 2 of our summer camp is dedicated to a special trip chosen by the children, to celebrate all their hard work. For the second day in this summer camp, we went to Tonndemi, a trampoline park in Tokyo. The kids spent the morning bouncing high on trampolines, racing each other on the tracks, and diving into a variety of exciting games and activities! After our energetic morning, we headed to Shinagawa International School for lunch and shifted gears to a calmer activity — the Life Skills Game. Children were split into groups and each group received a card with a theme inspired by our five life skills. From there, they designed their very own games, bringing their ideas to life and then sharing them with the other groups. It was a wonderful display of creativity and teamwork. Day 2 was especially meaningful because it connected children from different care homes, giving them the chance to build new friendships — bonds we know will continue to grow through our future camps and Discovery Day programs. As we close the chapter on this year’s summer camp, our hearts are full, and we look forward to reuniting with all the care homes we work with when the new semester begins in mid-August!
