Most small business owners ask the same question: Do I really need a separate business bank account? Technically, not always. But in practice, it’s one of the simplest ways to stay organised, compliant, and avoid unnecessary risk as you grow. In this video, Stina Evinger breaks down the tax and financial benefits, from cleaner records and easier BAS reporting to reducing friction with the ATO. Then Mashrur Shan covers the legal side, including why mixing personal and business funds can put your personal assets at risk, especially when operating through a company or trust. It’s a small operational decision, but one that has a meaningful impact on how you run and protect your business. If you want this kind of legal and accounting support for your business, check out Lawpath 👉 https://lawpath.com.au/ #Lawpath #SmallBusiness #Startups #Accounting #Legal #BusinessGrowth

  • The legal and accounting industry is changing fast. AI is reshaping how small businesses across Australia get the support they need, and most professionals are still figuring out what that means for their careers 🚀 At Lawpath, we're not watching that shift happen. We're building it. We're looking for a Lawyer and an Accountant to join a team doing work that actually matters: making legal and financial support accessible for every Australian business, backed by technology that's changing what both professions look like in practice. ⚖ 📊 Two roles. One mission. 🎯 This isn't a role where you wonder if AI will change your job. It's a role where you're the one changing it. If that's where you want to be, we'd love to hear from you. • Most businesses are already using AI. Very few are thinking about the legal and data risks that come with it. Tools like ChatGPT and Canva can streamline content, operations and customer support, but without clear guardrails, you can run into issues around IP ownership, privacy and compliance. We’re running a practical session with Lawpath Commercial Lawyer Connor Barham to break this down: AI Tools for Business: What to Use, What to Avoid in 2026 What we’ll cover: • Where AI tools actually add value • Who owns AI-generated content • Managing customer data and privacy risks • Setting clear internal policies for AI use • Common mistakes to avoid This is a straightforward session focused on what business owners actually need to know, not theory. If you’re using AI in your business (or planning to), it’s worth getting this right early. • For decades, small business owners have operated in reactive mode. A compliance deadline slips. A contract clause comes back to bite them. A tax obligation surprises them at the worst possible moment. This isn't a failure of effort, it's a failure of the system. Professional services were built around crisis response, not prevention. We built Atlas to change that. 🔍 Before your first conversation, Atlas has already done its homework, researching your business structure, industry, location, and compliance obligations using public data. No 20-question onboarding form. 🧠 Every document you create, every consultation you book, every question you ask deepens Atlas's understanding of your business. It's the kind of contextual knowledge that used to take years to build with a trusted advisor, built automatically, updated in real time. ⚡ Atlas doesn't wait to be asked. It monitors regulatory changes, flags upcoming obligations, and tells you when your documents may need updating, before things go wrong. The compliance burden on Australian small businesses is real: $160 billion annually. 61% of small business owners spending over $20,000 a year just to stay compliant. We think the 2.5 million small businesses in Australia deserve the same agentic AI that large enterprises are investing in, at a price point that actually works for them. That's what we're building. 👉 Check out our article on Lawpath Atlas: https://lnkd.in/gS53MpdR 👉 Learn more about Lawpath Atlas: https://lnkd.in/gZJM3Psi #SmallBusiness #LegalTech #AI #Compliance #Australia #Lawpath

  • The money in your company isn't yours. Not until you take it out the right way. That's the core idea behind Division 7A and it catches a lot of business owners off guard. Withdraw company funds without properly classifying them as a salary, dividend or loan, and the ATO can treat it as a deemed dividend. That means a personal tax bill you weren't expecting. We've put together a short explainer video breaking down exactly how Division 7A works and what you need to do to stay on the right side of it. And if you want to go deeper, join our free webinar on 19 March (tomorrow) where Lawpath Head of Tax and Accounting Timothy Quinn will walk through salary, dividends and director's loans in detail. 🔗 Register here: https://lnkd.in/gpsgi2tj #Division7A #CompanyDirector #BusinessTax #Lawpath #AustralianTax #TaxCompliance

  • Most company directors are paying themselves the wrong way and it's costing them at tax time. 🚨 Salary? Dividends? A director's loan? Each option comes with different tax treatment, compliance obligations and risks. And choosing without understanding the difference can land you with a Division 7A problem you really don't want. Lawpath's Head of Tax and Accounting, Timothy Quinn, is breaking it all down in a free webinar built specifically for company directors. In one practical session, Timothy will cover: ✅ Salary vs dividends vs director's loans — when each makes sense ✅ PAYG and super obligations when paying yourself ✅ Director's loans — when they work and when they create risk ✅ Division 7A — common mistakes and how to avoid them ✅ Franking credits — how they work and when they apply Plus a live Q&A so you can get answers specific to your situation. If you run a company and you're not 100% sure you're paying yourself correctly, this is the session for you. 🔗 RSVP via the link: https://lnkd.in/gpjviZ8s #SmallBusiness #TaxPlanning #CompanyDirector #Division7A #Dividends #Lawpath #BusinessTax #AustralianBusiness

A Sydney design agency owner nearly lost his office. Buried in a lease he'd signed 3 years earlier was a renewal clause requiring 90 days written notice. He didn't know it was there. His previous lawyer had moved on. When he joined Lawpath, Atlas flagged it immediately. It scanned the lease, identified the deadline, and sent him a pre-drafted notice to sign and send, all in under 10 minutes. His 30-person team never knew how close they came. This is what we built Atlas for. Not for law firms. Not for in-house counsel. For the hundreds of thousands of business owners who are navigating legal, tax, and compliance obligations largely on their own. Atlas runs across our entire platform, monitoring your obligations, filing documents, updating contracts, and escalating to a human lawyer or accountant when it actually matters. It covers legal, tax, accounting, and compliance. All connected. All proactive. The results six months in: → Contract prep: 4 hours → 20 minutes → Quarterly tax filing: 50 minutes → 10 minutes → 140% more legal and compliance work completed per business → A$350M saved in legal and compliance fees But the number that matters most to us is the businesses now doing legal and compliance work they simply weren't doing before, not because they didn't need to, but because the cost and friction were too high. That's the problem we're solving. 💜 Check out our Lawpath Atlas page through the link in the comments 👇 #Lawpath #AtlasAI #SmallBusiness #Founders #BusinessOwners #LegalTech #AustralianBusiness

  • Ten years ago, we started Lawpath with a simple belief: starting a business shouldn't require becoming an expert in bureaucracy. Today, we're announcing our new look - and the next chapter of what we're building. Over the past decade, more than 650,000 businesses have used Lawpath to start and run their companies. What started as a legal platform has grown into something much bigger: a single place where a founder can register a company, manage compliance, get their tax sorted, and access expert advisors - all with full context across every part of their business. And today we're also announcing Lawpath Atlas - an AI operating system that monitors your legal, tax and compliance obligations automatically, and acts when something needs attention. Not a chatbot. Something that actually does the work. The world is changing fast. Australia is entering an entrepreneurial super-cycle. More than 1.3 million new businesses registered in 2025 alone - a 39% increase year on year. A new generation of founders is building leaner, digital-first businesses and AI is reshaping what's possible in legal, tax and compliance. The rebrand reflects what Lawpath has actually become. Not just a legal platform, but a full business platform - built for the founders who are driving that growth. 👉 Our Co-Founder Tom Willis on what's changed and where we're heading: https://lnkd.in/gUky8tmN 👉 Our CEO Dominic Woolrych on Atlas and why small businesses deserve the same AI as big law firms: https://lnkd.in/gvt-QXYa #Lawpath #Rebrand #SmallBusinessAustralia #Atlas
