About us

#SmashTheStereotype At Next Tech Girls we inspire today's girls in education to become tomorrow's women in technology. In 2022 just 26% of people working in the UK tech industry were women. Next Tech Girls was set up to tackle this underrepresentation at the grassroots level. We partner with companies and educational institutions to deliver tech-focused events, workshops and work experience placements for teenage girls. By providing them with hands-on experience and insights into the opportunities available at a critical age, when studies show their interest tends to drop off, we are shaping their futures and the future of the tech industry. So far we’ve built a community of over 17,000 and given more than 9,000 girls and young women experience of a career in tech.

  • If AI is reshaping entry-level work, what happens to the next generation trying to enter the industry? In a new interview with Rebecca Uffindell from Techerati, our Director Emily Hall-Strutt explores a growing tension in tech: while AI is accelerating transformation, many junior and early-career pathways are quietly shrinking. And when entry points narrow, the pipeline doesn’t just thin - it changes who gets through. Ahead of moderating two panels at Tech Show London this Wednesday at ExCeL London, Emily discusses: 💻 Why “tech = coding” still limits who sees themselves in the industry 💷 The hidden financial barriers that exclude talent early 👎 Why reducing entry-level roles risks weakening long-term diversity and innovation 👏 What meaningful action looks like in practice If you’re hiring into AI, cloud or digital roles - or designing early careers programmes - this is a conversation worth watching. 🎥 Watch the full interview to explore what needs to change: https://lnkd.in/ePCNym2c And if you’re at Tech Show London on 4 March, join us live at the ExCeL for: 🕝 14:35 - What Women Want: Attracting the Next Generation of Tech Talent Members of the Next Tech Girls Role Model community - Ama A. of Accenture, Hannah A. of IBM and Ishita N. of Bloomberg - share what drew them into tech and what nearly stopped them applying. 🕞 15:40 - Beyond the Glass Ceiling: Women Building the Future of Tech Callie Cromer of Women in Tech, Ellie Rahimi of Trainline and Kasia Dutch of Starling share honest insight on leadership, culture and inclusion. 📍 See you there!

  • Last week we ran our third work experience placement with Lyst since 2023 - and the feedback was the best yet 👏 ⭐ 5/5 overall experience ⭐ 5/5 hands-on learning ⭐ 5/5 support from hosts ⭐ 100% positive influence on career direction What stood out even more than the scores was why they were so strong: Students didn’t just observe. They worked in GitHub, explored SQL, learned how agile teams operate and developed real technical understanding 💻 Participants also repeatedly highlighted the patience, troubleshooting support and honesty of the engineers and IT specialists they worked alongside. Seeing women thriving across technical roles - and being able to ask questions openly - made their careers feel tangible and attainable. One student shared: 🗨️ “Your support and kindness, always being willing to help fix my code and explain things to me, has been absolutely invaluable.” - Ambika, 16 When technical depth meets visible, engaged role models, confidence accelerates ✨ Huge thank you to the Lyst team for setting such a high standard for meaningful, mentor-led engagement. This is what real, sustained impact looks like 💜

  • Last week we delivered our third annual Insight Day with Sky in Leeds 🧡 What stands out most isn’t just the feedback from the students - it’s the consistency of the Sky Leeds team. Many of the women volunteering have now supported all three events. ✨ That kind of sustained commitment makes a difference. This year, 17 young women aged 16–25 joined us from colleges and universities across the region, with the majority engaging with Next Tech Girls for the first time. Throughout the day they explored Agile and Kanban, UX and UI design, debugging and testing, and rotated through a careers carousel to understand the breadth of roles within tech 💻 Some of their reflections: 🗨️ “I HATED computing before but now I know there’s more parts to the job I’m more open.” - Shruti, 17 🗨️ “It has greatly influenced my plans because the day cleared a big assumption of mine. Now, I know that there are many other jobs within tech that do not require coding." - Oluwateniola, 17 🗨️ “The best part of the day was spending time with like minded women" - Navya, 18 By the end of the day, almost all participants said they were now interested in a career in tech, and the vast majority would consider working for Sky in the future 👏 We also consistently hear from volunteers how energising and rewarding these days are. Creating space for open conversations about career paths, setbacks and progression doesn’t just inspire the next generation - it strengthens culture internally too. Thank you to the Sky Leeds D&I community for continuing to invest locally and lead by example - we can't wait for the next Insight Day! 🩷

  • Emily has been part of the Next Tech Girls community for more than two years (since she was 14). Last week, she spent the day inside Digitas UK with 32 other young women, exploring data, AI and digital careers in the creative industry 💻 This is what she said afterwards: “It made the industry feel way more accessible and real. Hearing how different people found their way into data, strategy and creative roles showed me there isn’t just one path into digital, which was really reassuring. One thing that stuck with me was how much collaboration happens behind the scenes. I didn’t realise how closely data, creative and strategy teams work together to shape one project – it made me see how important understanding multiple areas of work is, especially if I want to go into this industry one day.” That’s the power of opening your doors to the next generation. Thank you to the Digitas team for giving 33 young women honest insight into how your teams really work 🦄 And thank you to Emily for creating this ‘day in the life’ video of her experience as part of our new Brand Ambassador programme 👏 This is what meaningful early-talent engagement looks like 💙

  • Last week, 8 Year 12 and 13 students spent their February half term inside Sony Interactive Entertainment in Liverpool for a four-day immersive work experience placement. 🎮 This wasn’t about designing video games. They explored the business of tech - InfoSec, CertOps, legal, finance, vendor management, QA and project management - seeing how teams collaborate to bring products to life. 💡 Only 3 of the 8 were interested in a tech career when they applied. The other 5 were motivated by different interests, or simply wanted insight into how a global business operates. ⚖️ One student had planned to pursue a legal career since Year 8. After four days at Sony, she said: “It’s helped me think of other career prospects.” By the end of the placement: ✅ All 8 said the experience positively influenced their career plans ✅ All 8 said they are now interested in a career in tech ✅ All 8 would consider working at Sony Interactive Entertainment in the future This is what meaningful access looks like at decision-making age. Huge thanks to the Sony Interactive Entertainment team for opening their doors and showing that there is no single path into tech 🧡 👉 We’re currently planning our remaining 2026 placements. If your organisation would like to explore hosting students, you can find out more and get in touch here: https://lnkd.in/eBwAKwHJ

  • Career confidence starts with real access to opportunity... Earlier this week, we partnered with Publicis Media 🦁 to host an Insight Day for 30 young women exploring careers in media, data and technology. Throughout the day, students discovered different pathways into the industry, heard from apprentices and experts in data and AI, and worked in groups to develop and pitch advertising campaign ideas. The impact was clear: ✨ 100% reported a positive influence on their career plans ✨ 100% are now interested in pursuing a tech career ✨ 100% would now consider working for Publicis Media in the future As one participant shared: 🗨️ "It helped me understand the different sectors which I didn’t have a lot of previous knowledge on and clarified which would work best for me.” - Cheryl, 17. Another told us: 🗨️ “I was already considering an apprenticeship but now I’m considering one with Publicis.” - Jasmine, 18. Thank you to the brilliant Publicis Media team for creating such a thoughtful and inspiring experience. We’re proud to work together to open meaningful pathways into media, data and tech for the next generation 💜 If your organisation is committed to inclusive early-careers impact, we’d love to discuss opportunities to collaborate. Message Emily Hall-Strutt to find out more.
