HELP ONE
If you’ve been a parent/guardian, its important to share the wealth. There are expecting parents, newly minted guardians or maybe they just got home with their newborn.
This is what I believe to be true anyway - we must help those in line behind us. Recently I had coffee with a friend who just became a dad. While we met for coffee I held his baby and walked away. Why? So dad could have a moment alone. So dad could feel supported. Because if you’ve been doing this child raising the right way, you know its hard.
It isn’t just the action of giving him alone time. Also in the subtle and direct advice or questions I asked. Such as:
“where is the baby’s bag,” I asked. “In the car,” he responded. My advice - never leave the bag in the car.
“Why isn’t she covered up?” I asked. “I didn’t think it was that cold out,” he replied. My advice, dress them to have layers and you can play with that later.
There others that came up in conversation. The point however, is to share what you know with those that shouldn’t have to wait and find out. Give them all your gems of information. What worked when one of yours was sick or couldn’t sleep. Books to read or ways to encourage them to eat. Don’t hoard all you’ve earned - share it. Help one the way you wish you had one helping you.
