Non-profits and other organizations commit to supporting youth by addressing a variety of complex needs. In my experience with youth-serving organizations I realized that there are certain key components that successful and sustainable organizations excel such as securing funding, training staff, utilizing data showing collective impact, gaining stakeholder support, and having a strategic expansion plan. I quickly learned that struggling in these areas could cause youth programs to be ineffective, downsize, or even cease operations. Ineffective programs are a missed opportunity for youth, which can negatively impact the course of their lives.
