Fleece PJs Down Under

Addendum: Stupid idea that was after all! My face is red all over from the cold :-(
Ok. Now I head to my car. We have -9C and my car is in another street.

Yes. I know. You guys "Down Under" have some 37C+ and more atm and the last thing you need is warm PJs, right? ;-)

Well, we over here freeze our butts off.
Our usual Monday-walk to the city was cancelled, since Ingo had to work longer. Hence we went today - I had to bring the receipes from filling up the company car to ... well... the company anyways.

And Ingo suggested... to wear our PJs under our jeans - what a wise idea that was!
Last year The last two years were full of snow and ice - but warmer. Weird, huh? And it worked, too with the PJs!
The wind was so darn nasty, but my legs were fine.

I so hope we get no snow and ice. It may stay cold, I can handle that. But driving a car every working day under the conditions we had the last two years.. oh, please no.

Ingo got me the book "Schmitz´ Mama", oh, yay, I had to start right away. I don´t have a "Mama" or how Bro and I said, "Mutti" anymore, but I bet it´s a great book! I read "Schmitz´ Cat" before and it was great.

Could pass as a Gratituesday-Post as well - am I thankful Ingo comes up with PJ-ideas like that! Brrr... The days are obviously getting longer at least!

Oh! And Ingo got a real piece of a meteorite - it was found in Gibeon/Namibia in 1838 (came with a certificate) and is 4,6 (German) milliard years old - pic is to follow.
It says "Your personal lucky charm - a real falling star" and since it comes with a necklace, very supposedly I´ll wear it, huh? Hope it´ll bring us luck - first, Ingo wants to examine it, what else? ;-)

The Goal Of Life

On Death´s Track – Prof. Dr. Michael Tsokos (Germany´s most famous coroner – are there other “famous” ones?!).

“The goal of all life is death” said Sigmund Freud, and the author agrees – everyone has to die in the end.

That sure is right.

My goal, though, is to lead a good life, enjoy, be there for others and with others.

Anyhows. In this book the author tells of 12 spectacular cases he had to go through. Don´t think I´m morbid. But I had to deal so much with this subject, I have to know about it. I read a very spiritual book about death and this one is scientifically.

It´s truly amazing what coroners are able to detect, I tell ya!

In Germany there are about 900 000 deaths per year – 3 of 100 don´t die by age, sickness or accident. Known. There are many, many more unknown non-natural deaths, still! I saw an old episode of Quincy once and he said, if we put a candle on each grave where someone did not die naturally but by murder, the graveyard would be alight at night. Weird it still is that way, huh?

The author also explains that as a coroner you don´t deal with death only, but from the viewpoint of the dead you examine life.

I won´t go into too much detail of the cases, but rather note what I think is worth to be read, or remembered. Facts I never thought of.

Did you know for example that coroners never talk of "Selbstmord" ("self-murder"), but only suicide? Per definition the offender has to kill someone out of lust to kill, greed and such – unlikely a person can do that to himself…

Speaking of… I always thought, too, that committing suicide on a sunny summer day is the exception. Truth is... in winter, when it´s dark for so long, and cold, people can accept depression better. But sunny weather is nothing they can deal with.

One fact the author had to give away: Bon Scott didn´t die of alcohol intoxication or puke, he freezed to death in a friend´s car.
Well. I didn´t know he was an Aussie (in case that name means as much to you as it did to me: Bon Scott was the singer of AC/DC).

Back to suicide. In the 1980´s in Germany 18 451 people killed themselves, “only” 9 765 in 2006 and “only” 9 402 in 2007. Wow. That still made a lot of despaired people…

In comparison to other countries that makes us 4th with 10 per 100 000. Japan is first with 18, followed by France (who would´ve guessed that?) with 15 and Canada with 11 people committing suicide.

And despite the fact that the number of suicides goes down, in 2007 way more people (as said, 9 000) died by killing themselves whereas “only” 4 949 died in traffic accident.

Luckily I cannot even imagine to be so desperate to think of killing myself.

What weird cases did the author encounter? How far has science come?

There was a man in a burned car – on the back seat. Fact is: he did it himself, and he was driving whilst doing so, it was suicide.
He´d put two open jerrycans on the foot space of the co-driver's seat, had put gas everywhere in the car additionally. After a few minutes of driving he lighted a fire and in the closed car an inferno broke loose that amputated his right arm (we´re driving on the right side of the road over here) and the “blast wave” hit him again and again and again and catapulted him on the back seat.

Another man got stuck under a car – for over 9 km. The author could still prove that the man had been killed before by a hit on the head.

One guy shot himself accidentally by climbing down stairs – they could prove it was not his friend murdering him.

Yet another one was found naked on a playground – in winter. He himself had ripped his clothes off, it was no murder, they found out. He was drunk and obviously often people get the feeling it´s hot…

In one case they first only had a head. They managed to find out that this man had jumped from a bridge – with a steel rope around his neck to make absolutely sure he´ll die by ripping the head off. It´s really amazing what you can find out with scientifical knowledge…

Police found a car in a dike, in winter. A man without head sat behind the steering wheel, hands rested on the wheel, belt applied according to instructions.
What had happened? The man had taken a thin steel cable, attached one end at a fence, led it through the rear of his truck, made a loop around his neck and hit the gas real hard to full speed.

The author could prove a murder despite the fact that the person was burnt to unrecognizable condition. Again… science is amazing (and this chapter made me nearly fall unconscious).

Then there was a dead man who was smashed, but lie in a garden in the soft grass. They found out he´d been working on a cannabis-farm, had committed suicide by jumping head first and down out of the second floor-window on the pavement. The owners of the farm transported the dead man away cause … well, cannabis-farm.

A woman found a suicide note of her husband. And the husband later in a rain barrel. He´d climbed inside, closed the lid and slashed his wrists.

Another man was found dead in an airport on top of a rubbish-bin. He had 1500 € with him, and all papers. Turned out he was a bodypacker. The laxatives he took shortly before landing worked too fast… and he had to swallow the bags afterwards. Two ripped and this was that. Uhhh, what a mean business…

And then there was the case Jessica. She made it to the age of 7. In a dark, very small room. Seldom she got something to eat or drink… I spare you the details. How can parents – or humans for that matter – act that way?

The last case was interesting. A young couple was taking a little tour on a small boat. Suddenly they saw a dead body in the water. A man in a dress from 1800-something. “Global warming” was the solution. The man lie on the ground of the lake in 4C temps for a 100 years, the temperature you find in cold storage houses – putrefaction is stopped at this temp. Then the water got warmer and gasas build up which made him float to the top…

Science is amazing. The author goes very much into detail, so if you´re interested in how our bodies work when we live, when we die and afterwards… get a copy of this book – it´s very well written, too, you could nearly say “entertaining”.

New Guard On Board

Saturday morning means running errands.
Ingo got me this cute Lion, er, no, he got it for us :-) Yep, I know it´s for Valentine´s Day, but if you followed my blog you know we make pressies not to those fixed dates but when it fits in. And aren´t his feet too cute? The smile? Aww...

This new "Henry even has a job - he takes care of our heart:

This is how our sideboard looks now, (one) housewarming-pressie from Perth included :-)

We went to the post-office as well. Actaully to the Packstation where you can fetch your stuff whenever you like, so practical!

Box is open:

And what was in it? Another pressie for me! :-)

Fahrenheit! Ingo used to wear it forever and doesn´t like it no more. So I wear it now - it´s soooo yummy :-) And makes me smell more manly, too, ha-ha!

And Morris there does a very good job, btw, thanks again, Flea :-)

You can also send parcels away here:

We then went to Pocco, a mini/cheapy-IKEA, kinda. If we had the space, I´d so love to have that 70´s -style table!

Instead we grabbed a frame for our Mielebaer and now he found a place near "Hamelin Pool":

Please note the supercool shirt Ingo is wearing! It shows the Braunschweig-Lion and just fits in the picture with that light-blue, huh?

We also got a green pic:

Need to take care we don´t overdo it in this condo ;-)

Soon we´ll start preparing another beer-can-chicken, hmmmm. Meanwhile my hands dare to fall off due to the cold.
We really need to take care of this next summer! Brrr.
Reminds me of what happend in grade 5. We were all given a thermometer and the physics-teacher asked, "what do you see?". The other kids said, "it goes up!" I said, "it goes down." - well, it was cold in that room! The teacher checked the thermometer, it went up in his hands and I had to go see the nurse. Brrr, it´s cold.
Do I look forward to that chicken, it´ll sure warm me up!

Happy weekend, everyone :-)

Good To Be Small

(or do you say "little"?) ... well, at very rare times, that is!
On my way home from work I drive past an Aldi. Monday I stopped to get Ingo his coffee.
Yesterday he realized he´d run out of "work-sweets". Oh, great!, I thought, couldn´t he´ve seen that earlier?!
So, today I stopped there again - and guess what I found?!

"Kid´s" PJ´s for only 8 €! In my size! In good quality!
Ok, they look a bit... ummmm, as if they´re for kids. But hey, we take our glasses off at night anyways!
And really... in that quality for adults you pay at least double! I got the two last ones in my size, yay!
Ok... they sit a bit more tight, but hey...

And I can work on that one, too now again!
On Friday 13th my crosstrainer broke down (mechanic´s fault when assembling) and we heard nothing of the company to do anything about it.
Ingo wrote a rather "angry" E-Mail yesterday, no answer.
Today I also asked if something went wrong and ta-daaa, this evening way past 6 the phone rang, a guy came and 20 minutes later it was all ok again!

Actually it was good it happened, got so much done in the "household"!

And to top it off beforehand, we had a real sunny day and my new teamleader finally saw flip-flap in action...

...smiled and said, "cool flower!"

A good day.
To be honest, though... I´d pay more for PJ´s and rather be taller than only 1,64 m... But, what the heck, life could be worse, like really, stop whining, self-me! (that´s no word, "self-me", huh?)

Tis N' Tat

Nope sadly not my healthy dish, it´s Ingo´s. I got my Father´s genes. Apart from Tuna and fish-fingers I sadly don´t like fish...
Have to add... that green "fork" is for peeling cooked potatoes. My Mum got it from hers and she gave it to me ages ago.
Still have it, despite moving more than three times with it.
Oh, and it´s green :-)

Got a bit slack with blogging lately.
My crosstrainer broke down cause some not so clever mechanic put the v-belt on in the wrong direction and the thing ripped in two.
That was Friday a week ago :-(
Bad service. And bad weather, hence no alternative to go outside. My back hurts.

On a better note: I get some stuff sorted out.

Hmm, this was very yummy, savoy cabbage:

The other Sunday we tried the egg-warmer I got in my Adventkalender. I wait for sunny weather to get good pics of the highlights in the Advent-Calendar...

The flaming heart now has a fixed place, too, the woman got a stick in her butt for it, Ingo is so creative ;-)

We didn´t get up all that early last Sat, but got the best parking-space none-the-less:

We needed very spontanously breadrolls and went to another bakery as our usual. The Lion-Bakery :-)

And these onions gave me a weird look, kinda:

Other... it´s quiet here.
The notary still didn´t give any notice, so I still didn´t visit my hometown to sort certain things out.
I thought Bro would be in a hurry to start, but no.

He wanted to come over last Sat for my "Birthday", but the weather was so yucky, I asked them to come when the weather is better.
Well, let´s see.
It still feels unreal that my Mother is dead.

Cold Sun

Dang, it got cold over here, but sunny, too, for a change.
(Yep - new glasses from Bro, they react to the sunlight - love em.)

So on Saturday afternoon we decided to go for a walk… and ended up in the city! We haven´t seen the place in daylight for quite a while…

I love you Bebi? Hehe, must´ve been some students:

The Alte Waage and Andreaskirche:

And Brunonia of the Quadriga, the largest in Europe, I can add:

Some old half-timbered house:

And right beside a new, quite colorful house:

Some art, oh my, I just love frogs :-)

Who would´ve known that in this tree a woman was hiding?

Henry...

And the real one:

Always good to see him!

And the bird opposite of him, overwatching it all:

Ingo got himself a Braunschweig T-Shirt and a -Jumper and me a -jacket. Pics sure are to come.

Yeah, we love our city, huh? ;-)

(Night) In The Museum

Last Saturday we went to the Museum of natural history. They have Dinosaurs on display, hence this one is welcoming the visitors. Guess I´ll see him more often, Ingo bought annual tickets. We should´ve done that last year, the one where we had no summer… I hope for lots of bike-tours and a summer this year!

Well. Despite it being Saturday and rainy, the museum wasn´t too crowded. First we went downstairs, I just love those colorful fishes:

Find Nemo...

Nothing like AQWA and this “new” cam is really bad with inside pics without flash.

Speaking of grey, rainy weather… this cheers one up, no?

Weird guy:

More green, snake included:

And isn´t this felly too cute?

Up we went and guess whom we found there? Stumpy!

Know the little stromatolithe in Shark Bay, WA, who leads you through the path, explaining how his life works and shows you his ancestors (EIP, “erode in peace”).

Ahhh, sweet memories.

Hamelin Pool, where we had brekkie with a slightly bugged out tourist-guide who told us that you can use dettoil mixed with baby-oil against the mossies. Works only when there aren´t too many of them, though. But it made a nice memory.

Here is another slice from Shark Bay:

Sorry again for the blurry pic, but do you see some similarities here? ;-)

And this one reminds me of Zoidberg from futurama…

Now, stop here, otherwise you put yourself at risk! I doubt, though, that a rope like that would stop this guy, huh?

A “small” dino, yikes, those sharp teeth!

See that foot beside him? Does it belong to “Rexi”?

See how huge that dino is? That´s me in the picture, I couldn´t even reach his hipbone! He probably´d helped me up, he seems to grin in a friendly way:

Pic also blurry, taken by Ingo. Next time we really need to take his camera!

I soooo love the sea:

These are only dioramas, though. But with a bit imagination… Skip imagination in the following one:

Ewww… Since I don´t wanna end with such an ugly (yet kinda amazing) pic, I show you what I found in the supermarket before, it´s kinda distracting:

Is the print for in case some elephant might stroll by? “Here, take those.”

This Saturday was great, too, pics are to come.
Yep. Back in life. Still have my moments (kinda often) about my Mum, but we go on.
