On December 30, 2025, our family lost the only home we have ever known a place we lived in for over 50 years. Despite years of warnings to our landlord about dangerous conditions in the apartment above us, including repeated police reports, threats, and unsafe activity, our concerns were ignored. The fire that ultimately destroyed our home began in that same apartment.
In a single night, our lives were turned upside down. We are now displaced, facing severe smoke and water damage, and have been told it could take a year or more before we are able to return if returning is even possible. Much of what we owned had to be discarded because it was unsalvageable.
Our hearts are especially heavy for our grandmother, whose apartment was directly beneath the fire and suffered the greatest damage. She recently underwent heart surgery and cannot safely stay in a shelter, nor can she be separated from her pet.
We are humbly asking for help to secure safe housing and replace essential belongings as we work to recover from this unimaginable loss. Any donation, no matter how small, will help keep our family together, provide our grandmother with a safe place to heal, and help us begin again after losing everything.
