  1. In novice/git/img, created a folder called "extras" to contain 

    all image files in img which are not currently used in lessons.

This allows these files to be replaced, renamed and/or relocated as desired, with assurance that such changes will not have any impact on lessons.

May want to consider renaming folder to "unused".
