Overview

  • Dealing with CKD is often compared with riding a rollercoaster.
  • Although it can be very rewarding seeing your cat respond well to treatments, there will be times when you are stressed and frightened, and long to get off the rollercoaster.
  • This section of the site provides tools to help you cope during those times.

Coping with CKD

This page gives tips on how to cope with the diagnosis and how to live with the disease. It discusses practical issues, such as how to deal with the costs of CKD, and what to do if you have to travel away from home. There is also information on how to cope from an emotional perspective, which includes tips on how not to worry too much about the future, and what to do when you are feeling really low and stressed.

Tanya’s Support Group

I set up this private support group to help people with CKD cats feel less alone. Members of the group support each other during the bad times and celebrate the good times together. They give tips on medicating a CKD cat and where to get supplies at good prices.

Read about how the group works on this page and sign up – it’s completely free, and you can share as much or as little as you like.

Success Stories

Many people find this is one of the most encouraging parts of the site. There are stories about cats with high numbers, cats with low numbers, cats with acute kidney injury, cats with kidney stones, young cats (six months old in some cases), old cats. Check it out!
