Lore: Yotsehr ‘Or

After a few more philosophical posts, let’s try something lighter. Humans are not the only culture in the universe possessing the concept of a robot, a thinking machine and many, many related concepts. There are some stories about great machines that have reached humanity, and mages have no reason to doubt thier veracity.

Lore: The Fence Is There For A Reason

Continuing on the theme from our last post, the excerpt below discusses an actual philosophical concept. This time however, it is applied to magic, and specifically the Left Hand Path… or as you might be more familiar Black Magic. That in itself is a concept we’ve shared some lore on before, but in this case we have something a bit different: an in character critique of the issue.

Lore: True Reality and the Human Delusion

I’m going to be very direct here. It’s an excerpt about Neoplatonism and the often asked question of what is and what isn’t real, as well as what’s more or less real than anything else. Neoplatonism is just one of things things that come up again and again across philosophy and video games, so it was only a matter of time it popped up here as well.

Lore: Is Another You Reading This Book Elsewhere?

Continuing with the theme of last week’s lore post, the concept discussed here are not fictional. At the very least in the sense that they are theoretical concepts in the fields of math and physics. While there is a light touch of fantasy thrown in, by including the Noosphere as one of Earth’s sphere’s, were you to ignore this, the whole excerpt would remain coherent and now relate purely to our own reality, and not the fictional reality of the game’s setting.

Lore: You Do Not Understand Time

We’ve discussed time before. This excerpt expands on these topics, drawing mostly from our own world’s philosophical thoughts on time. Thus, thought it is an excerpt from an fictional setting, where a fictional character speaks on fictional topics (the butterfly), most of the text isn’t fiction. Personally I find being able to do such things rather interesting.

Lore: Makhaira: of Shadow and Blood

A short bit of lore for today, but one I find interesting nonetheless. A culture where magic exists is sure to incorporate that magic into all sorts of other disciplines. So it should not be a surprise that martial arts based on the usage of the arcane exists within the setting’s version of Earth. In this excerpt, a short description of one such art is presented.

Lore: The Petal Chamber

There are many things to be found out there in the Cosmos. Some of those things don’t pose a direct threat to humanity, but they pose a threat to those too curious to keep away. This excerpt presents one such example, presented through the words of one of the mages who discovered it.

Lore: The Dolphin’s Dream

For today’s postings, I’ve selected a number of lore texts that all share a common function: they answer questions asked to me by people on Discord, at one point or another. Next, we have the question of human relationship with entities gifted with lesser cognitive and magical abilities. To expand on this question, I’ve decided to make a throwback to an older text, which mentions the hypocritical treatment of dolphins by humans.

Lore: How To Study The Arcane For Beginners

For today’s postings, I’ve selected a number of lore texts that all share a common function: they answer questions asked to me by people on Discord, at one point or another. For this first one we delve into the issue of arcane academia, and specifically the breadth of different magical practices existing in the world.
