It looks like the James Webb telescope launch last week will be in service much longer than expected thanks to the ESA’s Ariane 5’s efficiency. Story here. (post in memory of Mike Nofsinger)

This is cool
While I am generally wary of Chinese ambitions in space, I have to say that this is a cool example of cooperation and an indication of where we could go with a less oppressive Chinese government.

Congrats again SpaceX
They did it again. This time with a used booster and a used capsule. SpaceX is making space a bunch cheaper. (Post in memory of Mike Nofsinger, who is up there somewhere, smiling.)

ESA lags again
It appears that the ESA’s competitor to the SpaceX Falcon 9 won’t fly until mid-2022. Heck, at that point, Elon and company will be on their way to Mars. (post in memory of Mike Nofsinger)

Small thinking
In this story, the plans of the ESA and NASA are discussed in regard to getting samples of Martian soil back here for study….by 2031. This is the perfect example of the small thinking that infects NASA. By 2031, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos will have people on Mars, while the government spaceflight agencies diddle around. Space news
NASA has a spacecraft that is orbiting an asteroid and mapping it in preparation for landing and sampling the surface. Small planetary bodies have become a hot item of study for NASA, JAXA and the ESA.
